They are a very good, and very consistent team. They were easily the best in this tournament.
Mate, I said on paper, they have a failed Chelsea center forward, a center back in the Saudi league, a left-back who has been poor all season, and their only 'world-class' player came off at half-time. Compared to the England squad, we should be beating these teams.

Spot on, and commentators saying we couldn’t cope with the press. That is 100% down to how the manager set us up, these guys play against pressing football every f***ing week and cope with it just fine. We were set up for the low block like some inferior team and when we did get some momentum and score after the subs we went back to playing a low block.
Irrespective of this, England give the ball away too much which is basic and nothing to do with how you set up. The players have to take some responsibility.

Back to bad old Southgate England tonight. Negative, overly defensive and no pressing of them at all.

I've tried to stick up for Southgate through the tournament. Obviously he's done a lot right behind the scenes.

But christ, on the pitch that was absolutely dire tonight, again. False hope when Netherlands gave us the freedom of the park first half the other day. So so poor considering the talent we have in the second half. By far the worst performance against Spain compared to France and Germany.

Pickford aimlessly hoofing the ball up the pitch time and time again was just embarrassing.

Southgate absolutely needs to move on now

England have got to Finals/ semi finals in spite of Southgate, not because of him.

Every time we play a good team , we lose.
It’s all very well beating, or even drawing with the mid ranked teams in tournaments , but, until you can beat the best teams you won’t win anything.

Southgate has proved he can’t beat good teams with good managers.
He’s a dinosaur, and deserves to go the same way they did.

We beat the Dutch (who came third in their group) and suddenly we were told he was right all along. We stank out the tournament and relied on luck.

A deflected cross for a goal in the first match. A long throw with flick on for Jude over head. Heck even today we got a nice deflection.

We hardly created anything in open play through our patterns of play. It just relied on individual brilliance.

I think that’s more Pickford than Southgate. Pickford seems to like to be centre of attention rather then playing the simple pass and building up. Like nearly every top team does; Everton do and are neither of those.

Oh come on. What about all those chances we created by playing kick offs back to Jordan and then lumping it onto the biggest defenders head?

They have:
Simon- a top quality keeper.

Carvajal - a RB who has been key to Madrid winning 4 league titles, 6 Champions leagues.

Laporte - a CB who despite playing in the Saudi league this season was a key player for City before.

Cucurella- The most expensive fullback ever.

Rodri.

Ruiz - key for Napoli for years and instrumental in them winning the league 2 seasons ago. Arguably player of the tournament.

Olmo - Incredible midfielder who has been unlucky with injuries previously.

Yamal - 17 years old, played 38 games for Barca last season. Genuinely ridiculous.

Williams - most exciting player of the tournament and an incredible young player.

Morata - has led the line for Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea and Atletico. Had a similar goals to game ratio as Drogba whilst he was at Chelsea, hardly failed.

Tonight, when after we scored, he wanted to bring on Trippier and Gallagher to shore it up and, hopefully get to penalties.

He had no faith in bringing on attacking players at that stage to go for the win .

I hope we have seen the last of hom as England manager, and we get one with a much more up to date attitude.

Depends on the license they’re given. If there is a pattern, or instruction to take a touch or always turn outward etc. then it is down to set up.

However I do agree some player were well off it tonight though.

Probably best not to base 8 years of coaching on setting up defensively andkeeping hold of the ball then..play to your strengths
