[Football] Tips for Wet Spam away

I'm going to see Fulham away at West Ham on Sunday and was wondering about any tips for visiting the new stadium this season. I know about the max A4 size bag but do they confiscate water bottles, which is the best station to head for from Brighton, any decent places to drink that accept away fans etc? (I'll keep an eye out for youth in grey Matalan trackies). Ta.

Head to Hackney Wick. Go to Stratford and then it's one stop. The bars by the canal are brilliant and all allow away fans, only Silo (aka Crate Brewery) do not allow football shirts, but you can still go in there, everywhere else is fine. It's a belter of an awayday. Enjoy.

Use Pudding Mill Lane station. You come out right outside the away end and hardly anybody uses it.

Old Street Brewery and Taproom (Hackney Wick) and Beer Merchants Tap for a post game pint (both in Hackney Wick).

I've always found it quite nice to have a pint around Highbury/Canonbury and then get the overground to Stratford pre-game. Give yourself a bit of time to get into the ground, it's quite far from the station and security checks have taken a while in the past (though this season it was a breeze).

Last time I went met some West Ham mates in the White Post down from Hackney Wick it was a popular Hammers bar, but there were quite a few Seagulls in there. As others have said, there is a lot of nice bars/cafes on the canals from Hackney Wick.

We booked a driveway through Just Park. It was very easy. about 15 mins walk from stadium, straight out no problems getting home.

These are all great tips, thanks very much. I'm thinking of getting train to Vic, tube to Stratford, overground to Hackney Wick, then & walk to ground along the River Lee. The walk beside the river will remind me (a little - it's very different) to the walk to the Cottage.

Any crafty/real ale recommendations in Hackney Wick please?

I'll 2nd Hackney Wick. Short walk to the ground and loads of bars to choose from for a pint. We went in the Old Street Brewery - My lad had a Brighton top on and it let away fans in, some of the others don't let away fans in but they won't stop you without colours - I ended up necking a 7.7% IPA that was absolutely fantastic albeit for a fortune but well worth it.

Outside Hackney Wick, there was also a bloke doing Hot dogs for £3. Alright, they were of the "extra bacteria with that mate" kind but it is edible if you get stuck.

There is a myth that there is "Nowhere to drink at West Ham" It's rubbish. It's one of the best there is.

Wish I'd seen a thread like this thread before I went there a couple of years back. We all went through Westfield where we found a football bar that was showing the lunchtime game, but it was a bit crap (and expensive) so we only had a couple there, and decided to get to the ground to carry on with some beerage. What we didn't realise was that the concourses under the seats were "open air", with just some canvas sheets tied overhead. And it was cuffing FREEZING that day. Not very pleasant.

Next time we go I'll make sure we plan it better.

Just a shame about the new stand blocking the view of the Thames so you cant watch the boats going up and down while waiting for kick off - and what has happened to the Cottage Pie, that was loverly

Millwall for me. Straight into the Borough market and then 1 stop to the ground. Enter via the tunnel and then watch the Wall fans fight each other in the stands. Wonderful!

I've yet to sample the delights of the new Riverside stand (& am unlikely to at the prices being charged this season - maybe next back in rhe Championship!) and I agree its a shame you can no longer see the river through the corners. But it's supposed to be generating income through hospitality boxes, and swanky restaurants , a health club and hotel open all week. The build is being done by the same people who've been at the Amex - Buckinghams. They specialise in sports stadia. From the top seats, you can see outer space and look down on Stamford Bridge.
