[Albion] Time wasting last night

Bournemouth having a go about time wasting?! Anyone who saw the game at our place will know that’s incredibly hypocritical. They took the piss from the 1st minute playing for a 0-0 draw, & unluckily for them conceded in the last minutes. So basically, f*** em!!
Couldn't agree more, remember saying to my son on the day that shouldn't they be trying to get a win given their shite points position.

The difference is our players actually get booked for it, and quite early too.

This quote made me chuckle "Short of Mitoma and Mac Allister, I don't think on an individual level Brighton are that much better than us."

Really?
On the night we didn't look that much better. In my opinion it was an off night, but we showed good resolve to get it over the line.

We've played a lot, LOT better than we did last night, and lost or drawn the game.

Broadly the difference is this...

Opposition does it: outrageous time-wasting and the ref needs to get a grip.
We do it: shrewd game management, well done chaps.

And most fans of most clubs are exactly the same.
I'm not sure I agree. Fulham and Villa do it FAR more than any, say Brentford (who had ample chance on Saturday) or Brighton. Of course we do it, and I'm not much of a fan of it unless we're 1-goal up and in the 90th+ minute.

I also don't have a problem with Steele getting a yellow for timewasting in the 60th minute, what frustrates me is that he's the only keeper I've seen that's been cautioned that early in a match. Martinez was doing it from about the 15th minute v Villa, as was the Fulham keeper and yet no booking. Refs should 100% nail time-wasters, just not only so late in the game that the damage has already been done

Bit rich for them to complain about time wasting given they were doing a helluva lot of it at 0-0 at the Amex

There isn't a team in this division that doesn't manage the game to suit themselves. That normally means time-wasting when you want to take the sting out of the game.

Bournemouth haven't looked that bad. When one of their players said two games ago that they are out of the bottom 3 to stay, I believe him. Well they're back there now, and I don't see them staying there for long.

I don't think it's as black and white as that. I can specifically recall the Fulham performance, other times its frustrating at the time, but forgotten about soon after. That was a different level.
Which is why I said “broadly”.

Everyone time wastes when it is needed and the rule change to allow goal kicks to remain within the area has increased this. The one thing that can't be levelled at our team is the clutching of the head after no contact.

There was a point in the second half where I thought we'd have deserved a goal against us late on. That's the risk of that kind of game management/time wasting when you've only got a one goal lead

I disliked our players rolling around in agony and getting up absolutely fine a few moments later. Much the same as I dislike it when the opposition do it. Exceptions given to Caicedo and Mac who took kickings and ended up being subbed off.

I find it absolutely incredible that Steele got booked for time wasting on 60 minutes when Martinez did it for 80+ (I think) before getting carded. Equally, to be wasting time at 60 minutes was a pretty poor decision from Steele.
Steele was waiting for Dunk to finish tying his laces, which the ref should have been aware of.

Dunk pushed Caceido back to floor on his last injury which was quite funny. I was pleased we’ve drawn or lost games being to nice over the Potter years. Thought we had trouble with passing ranges on that shitty little pitch so pleased we didn’t let them back in.

Normally it annoys me but I found it hilarious how angry they were getting, given how much they time wasted at the Amex.

That was the game we scored near the end, where there should have been about 8/9 minutes added on and the ref only added 4 on, presumably because bournemouth were doing all the time wasting.

I bit my tongue on some recent threads on this because our players will use "game management" just like everyone else when the need arises.

We're not saints.
Indeed. We "slow the gane down" when the need arises, just like any other team in the same situation.

Though maybe in a rather more subtle manner than some.

To be fair Martinez did get booked for his time wasting.

In the 98th minute, which was a lot of use.
