Time to write this season off

Let's face it, even if we do somehow manage to blag our way to a few wins and finish 21st, we're more than likely going to get battered in Division 1 next season and get relegated then anyway.

Personally I've accepted that we've not got what it takes and have given up on getting stressed because we've got no points after two games. Yes there are a few other sides out there without any wins yet too but we're not really better than them and it's time we realised that.

I'm not interested in apportioning blame, it's been a combination of things: not re-signing Paul Brooker, Brian Horton leaving, McGhee taking time to make his mark, the injuries to Blackwell, Rodger etc and so on.

All we do now is enjoy the rest of the season. There's some cracking away days coming up, West Ham, Leeds and Preston North End to name just three, and we should just relax now and look forward to some good days out.

There's a whole shed load of players out of contract at the end of the season, as there was after Adams first took over. Have faith in McGhee and I'm sure that next season, along with the prospect of Falmer on the way, we'll be serious challengers once again.

This season's boring. Great stuff, when did we last have one of those? Fans of most other clubs would run through a brick wall to have the last four or five seasons that we've had. And it says something when you can write the season off when we've still only played two games. Perhaps we've been spoilt a touch?

Look at this season as a 'transitional period'. Once we get it out the way McGhee can get shot of the dead wood and bring his own men in, Falmer will be started and then we can really look forward.

This division is the one to tread water in between getting the green light for Falmer (which - no more excuses! - had BETTER come before the end of this season) and Falmer opening for business a couple of years down the line. Mid-table-to-fourth-from-bottom-table-mediocrity will do just fine.

Rebranding the First Division as The Championship is every bit as fortuitous as Brighton being rebranded a City. The club need to cash in on both. Which means The Championship is the only place to be between now and Falmer.

A wind-up of FG proportions surely. But sod it, nothing else doing so I'll bite.

As opposed to our players gaining the benefit of another years worth of experience at this level, and McGhee getting the opportunity to add to the squad over the next 12 months to further strengthen our position ?

Personally I've accepted that we've not got what it takes and have given up on getting stressed because we've got no points after two games. Yes there are a few other sides out there without any wins yet too but we're not really better than them and it's time we realised that.
Despite the fact we are currently trying to operate with a squad decimated by injuries and suspensions, you are prepared to write us off against the lesser teams we havn't even played yet ?

All we do now is enjoy the rest of the season. There's some cracking away days coming up, West Ham, Leeds and Preston North End to name just three, and we should just relax now and look forward to some good days out.
I would hope that our players will not be walking out at West Ham, Leeds and Preston to point up at the big stands and go "oooh, aaahhh". Professional pride will ensure that they will be looking at this season as more than a "nice day out" I'd have thought.

There's a whole shed load of players out of contract at the end of the season, as there was after Adams first took over. Have faith in McGhee and I'm sure that next season, along with the prospect of Falmer on the way, we'll be serious challengers once again.
Which completely contradicts your first paragraph.

It certainly does say something when YOU can write off the season after two games, but thankfully I don't think you are speaking for the majority here.

Look at this season as a 'transitional period'. Once we get it out the way McGhee can get shot of the dead wood and bring his own men in, Falmer will be started and then we can really look forward.
In other words, lets throw in the towel now, after 180 out of 4,140 minutes of football this season (or 4.34%, not including injury time). Naah, I think I'll look forward to the remaining 95% of the season with at least some semblence of belief that we are better than at least 3 teams in this division.

Nice wind-up anyway LI, and it passed 10 minutes of my time on a dull Wednesday night.

FFS, I'm tempted to lock this because no-one realises that LI was on a wind-up. Even E10 was not sure.

I mean - Preston...

I hope Irish is being sarcastic, otherwise this goes down as one of the most defeatist postings of all time.

Irish - get your lucky charms out, it will be alright, I;m sure I'm sure.

Wasn't meant to be insulting, merely some light-hearted banter.

So wind it in, you Guinness-swilling terrorist. :salute:

(Only joking. :) )

P.S. I took a look at your 'fairly crap' website. Pretty good, actually. I won a hotel voucher on the quiz. :clap2:
