Sadly he didn't score!

Tonight encapsulated Connolly to a tee, not a shot on target, one he was clattered but after he made contact with the ball 6 yards out goalkeeper nowhere to be seen. He fell over when touched and in a good position but he busied himself until subbed

I watched the second half of the Oirland game. Aaron put in a shift, came close to scoring, and did his trade mark hopeless dive for a penalty.

He may be a composure-lacking rough diamond, but he's OUR composure-lacking rough diamond.

Considering who he was up against I thought he did really well. Just missing the finish! Very Brighton ’20/21 season

There's a big difference between in the ground and on social media. In the ground we need to back the whole team. The more noise, the more support, the better they tend to play.

Reading this you'd think the whole crowd booed Connolly every time he touches the ball. They don't. In fact, against Getafe, the North Stand sang his name all night. OK, they were talking about his shagging prowess* rather than his football prowess but it certainly wasn't boos.

*actually, this is one of the problems.

However, everyone's a critic these days whether it's Trip Adviser or Facebook or NSC. And Connolly is playing with the big boys. I would hope that people feel they can give an honest appraisal in online debate, whoever the player and whatever the team. No one is forcing AC to read his Insta replies or log on to NSC. But, on the pitch, he will see it and hear it.

An analogy. A new fine dining restaurant is opened in the same postcode as a three star gaff with a six month waiting list and the most on-trend place in the city. A critic comes into the new place which is trying to compete at this high level. The food is ok but a bit more miss that hit. The service takes too long and the price is not what is expected. But not only is it not terrible, it's far better than any non-chef could do. So would you expect the reviewer to boo the waiter, tear up the bill and march into the kitchen and call the Chef a c***? No. But would you expect them to write an honest review, including the weaknesses and how they might be overcome, perhaps with a suggestion that they move to a postcode where their only competition is a couple of kebab houses and a Chinese? I think so.

No one is forcing anyone to wear pants either but yet everyone do it because of the consequences of being the only one not doing it.

Young people are obsessed with social media not because they choose to, but because of social pressure and psychological reasons.

Reading some of the comments on here you’d be under the impression that there’s a cauldron of hate each time Connolly enters the pitch, which for those of us that do attend games know is just not the case.

Thats great but hundreds or thousands of psychos bashing him and expressing their hatred for him on social media is bad enough to **** with his (or anyones) brain.

He still doesn't have to. If Connolly is reading NSC he's stupider than I thought, but still only the equivalent of (back to the analogy) the chef who reads all his own bad reviews.

Yeah Right’O, tell that to most women, and transvestites

So which is your excuse for being on here then, social or my guess psychological

No one has to do anything yet they willingly do shit they know that arent necessarily good for them.

He probably reads NSC. I dont know many authors who are not reading reviews of their books and so on. Its quite normal to be curious about what people think of you. At some stage you might stop giving a **** but its probably uncommon among young people.

Probably. Just like you or anyone else I could do push-ups or go out running or writing the best novel ever written or teach kids about life or pretty much anything more useful but what I need/should and what I want/will do is not necessarily always the same thing and that goes for every single human on this planet because thats human nature.

I can guarantee if Tony cancelled his contract tomorrow everyone on this thread would be on TB’s side saying he did exactly the right thing. Would anyone be sorry to see him go? No not at all.

When i first saw AC play for the albion i thought , like many i would guess , that he was an exciting young prospect . However it has not worked out that way (so far!) and it may be the case that he is in danger of breaking our no dickheads rule . I am sure that the very many on here who have rightly criticised mr tumble must be wincing slightly inside when he does his trademark fall in the box , and then there is his off field antics
Don't get me wrong i know that like most fickle fans if he were banging the goals in on the pitch as well as he is allegedly banging off the pitch i would in all likelihood ignore everything else but unfortunately he is not !
So there it is , i still think he has time to turn things around but not for me to say how long or whether he has the spirit do it . Although i sincerely wish he would

Speak for yourself with your personal guarantees. With two fittish forwards in Maupay and Welbeck and an option of switching Trossard to the middle, I can guarantee you back that an awful lot of fans would think TB had lost his mind if he he tore up the contract of a promising 21 year old International who by all accounts had a decent game tonight. He's 21. Of course he is a willy lad dickhead, but that doesn't mean we give up on him. As the OP said 'let's all back Aaron Connolly'. Obviously you needn't bother of course:)

Does he need more backing or maybe he could stop being a bell end ? He's really well paid to train and play football. 3rd choice striker in a Premier league club. JFDI !!

Imho..... AC is one of the most gifted players we have, he is a natural goal scorer and should be supported at this club until his form/confidence/consistency emerges in his game again.

He hasn't obviously covered himself in glory to date, like most maligned but talented footballers, they eventually produce the goods.... he will be worth a fortune in a few years, that prospect alone should be worth perseverance.

That would be a completely ridiculous thing to do. He’s an asset, why would we just give him away?

I expect this has been discussed already on this thread but maybe the main reason he hasn’t been sent on loan is because the club don’t trust his off field antics, and that they’d far rather he was here so they can keep some sort of an eye on him and keep him out of major trouble. Which makes sense.

Wrong on two counts.

One, if TB did that I would question WTF he was doing. Luckily, he won’t be doing that as he has got too much sense.

Two, I would be really sorry to see him go.

The kid needs a break. The constant criticism he gets on here is getting ludicrous and it’s totally uncalled for. It’s a total witch hunt carried out by people who have absolutely zero compassion or understanding.

This ridiculous ‘no dick heads’ policy that doesn’t actually exist at the club, as it didn’t either with the New Zealand all blacks, does need to start being applied to a lot of posters on here though.
