[Albion] Time for Sanchez

Completely disagree with that assessment. You are guilty of what you accuse others of re Ryan. I like Sanchez because he inspires confidence in a way that Ryan fails to do. One hesitation to come for a cross does not change that feeling. He has been pretty much faultless since taking over. It does rather come across that you have been waiting for a mistake so you could post what you have.

Sanchez had little to do yesterday and managed to do most of it wrong. Poor distribution, misjudged the flight of a cross, didn't come out for the 2nd goal and doesn't dominate his area generally. The warning signs are there. He might be ready in time and he didn't do anything wrong in the previous matches but I'd be amazed if new keeper isn't top of of the shopping list in Jan.

I don't see how you've come to that conclusion from my post, it certainly wasn't my intention.

I'm quite happy with Sanchez too, and have always said he has a greater curve than Ryan.
My contention with the negativity towards Ryan was always - 'what do you expect when x is happening in front of him'.

For that opinion I (& Bold Seagull + a couple of others) were roundly turned on while a decent Albion pro was slaughtered by the boo-boys.

You can't then not expect me to point out the exact same thing is still happening irrespective of who's between the sticks and the reaction to that is so two faced it's unbelievable, or at least it should be.

Once again it was a set piece with at least 3 system failures (I can't even remember how the corner got awarded - we certainly played fast and loose with that in the first half) resulting in a goal scored by a fella who had no idea he'd scored.

What's most telling for me is the absolute dogs abuse Ryan would have got, had he been in goal.
Yet those so happy to slag him off have either fallen silent now they've got Sanchez, and nothing much has changed.
Or worst still defending him knowing full well they'd be screaming for a policeman were it too have been Ryan.

The king is dead long live the king.

Hopefully those in front of the keeper will stop making his job so hard.
Hopefully those on here will show some class - not holding my breath on that one.

Hear what you’re saying but other than his initial less than assuring start, until the last 12 months, Ryan has been given a relatively easy ride. (Personally I think he was at fault for quite a few more under Hughton , weak hand, poor positioning, take your pick).

Height comments were/are obviously unnecessary.

Yes we can, but keep on arguing for the sake of it. You know you want to. Goodnight.

Checked out Arthur Haynes yet? You should. Anyway, it's a bit of the HWT treatment for you for a while now.

Sorry if I misunderstood. I didn’t really process any wholesale negativity to Sanchez so maybe it is my misinterpretation. I just know I am very happy with his performances. If Ryan was slaughtered it was because Potter kept him in the firing line for too long when clearly under performing.

The ball for the second goal was right on Dunks head. There was no way he was coming for that. If Dunk had done his job and got a decent contact there would have been no second goal.

Yep. It was a Dunk mistake with poor marking from White, how anyone can put anything in that goal on the keeper I will never know, you can’t anticipate the best defender at the club missing a header that was right on his noggin, if you watch the goal back Sanchez positioning was perfect but he sees Dunk heading it so steps back towards his line and dunk inexplicably misses the header.

Dunk is well on his way to being a club legend but that goal was mainly caused by his mistake.

Yes. I still can't figure out what Dunky was doing - was he slightly unsighted by the defender in front?. Dunk didn't even get on his tip-toes. As you say 'inexplicable'.

Dunk was primarily to blame I agree (closely followed by White who was beaten for strength and not for the first or last time I suspect). It was, though, in the right zone for a keeper to claim it especially with the lack of traffic between him and the ball.

He looks as if he doesnt know what side of his head the ball is arriving at, perhaps making him worried about putting it in his own net, and that milli second of worry delays his decision to go up and head it. Poor confidence leading to indecisiveness leading to poor timing would be my diagnosis.

I think he might have his sights set higher than swapping one Albion for another

Agreed. I hope he does leave West Brom however, as I reckon if he does that is another relegation place all but decided.

TW in post #209 has called it correctly - and as for the assertion that everything Sanchez did yesterday was wrong, that simply beggars belief.

Correct.

Seems fairly obvious to me. We all love Dunky, but that was his error yesterday, ludicrous to pin that on Sanchez.

Could well be that. Just watched it again and there could have been a small deflection (real or expected) off either Welbeck or Webster. Oh well! Somebody needs to ask Dunk.

The cold facts of the matter are that West Ham had 4 shots on goal and we let in 2. Those were the type of stats that got Matt Ryan dropped (For balance, so did we). He may well be one for the future and he has shown ability - the Sheff utd free kick being the prime example - but he didn't have the best game yesterday and I can't believe a team with the stated ambition of top 10 aren't looking around for another keeper in this window.
