Time for Gough to quit ODI?

I was thinking after the result on Sunday and the poor start again made by our bowlers that Goughie just isn't up to it any more.

His figures against the Aussies in the Nat-West games fo far are :

1-47 (10 overs)
0-41 (10 overs)
3-70 (9 overs)
2-36 (6.5 overs)

0-50 (10 overs)
1-43 (6.2 overs)

Total :

7-287 from 52.1 overs

RR = 5.5
Runs Per Wicket = 41

Sorry - just ain't good enough for a strike bowler. Also, he has been expensive at the start of most innings, thereby giving them the momentum.

Time to go back to Essex Darren. Thanks for the memories, and they were good, but it's time to move on now IMO.

Abso-f***ing-lutely it is.

His opening bowling has been woeful, time to blood Tremlett I reckon.

Too right.

Build towards the next world cup. To be the best team, you've got to be ruthless, both to the opposition and you own selection process. Can't live on the past.

Same goes for the test team. Thorpe's time's up I fear.

I would like to see Thorpe play in the Ashes, he brings balance to the middle order and is the only one that can ctaully play Warne pretty well. If Pieterson is put in I fear we look a bit vulnerable.

At the moment I'd like to see this team go out for the first test.

Same goes for us Aussies I reckon - getting too old and in need of a good shuffle!! Can't live on the oldies but goldies for ever!!

Agreed, and as for the memories, I never had him down as anything more than a poor man's Botham. He was always very overrated IMO.

I'd like Bell in there rather than Thorpe. Agree about Pieterson, needs to do what Freddies done and learn about building an innings in difficult circumstances.

I would say Bell for Collingwood but the Aussies haven't worked how to get Collingwood out yet and he's looked confident against them. He's also excellent in the field and we shouldn't be scared of playing him because of that. I feel sorry for Collingwood.

I just don't think deropping Thorpe is an option. This will be his last series, there's no doubt about that but I want to see him in there helping the likes if Vaughan and Freddy along.

Bit harsh there I think. During his time at the top, he was surrounded by a lot of very ordinary players. He was for quite a few years our best performer.

My criticism of him would be that he never fulfilled his potential to be more of an all-rounder. In hisw earlier years, he could score some runs, but then virtually became a rabbit during the end of his test playing days.

He's struggling with a back injury at the moment though. Needed some jabs in it in his last innings. Wonder if he can stand the 5 day game?
