[Albion] Time for Davy to pack up his clogs?

Don’t get me wrong.

Davy has been one of our best players in the Premier League era. But times are changing. Sadly, I don’t think he is quite top 10 quality due to a lack of goals and mobility. If that is where we want to go, it might be best for Davy to move on as he seems to have dropped down the midfield starting order by at least three places.

We need the money.

If it wasn’t for the fact that Ajax might offer us a good chunk of their Van De Beek loot, I may not be quite so keen on this. Mark my words, we have enough quality in the centre to let him go if it means filling the coffers up for a bid for the likes of Edouard or Sessegnon.

This is what Davy is up against:

Bissouma - Top six EPL quality. We are going to be hit with some very very big bids next Summer. A better Premier League player than Paul Pogba.

Alzate - Wow. Another season, another step up. Only Biss before him on the team-sheet in terms of midfielders. Easily top ten EPL quality.

Lallana - Absolute quality, whilst he lacks mobility, he is one step ahead of the play with his experience and his passing is so slick.

Molumby - A younger and much more mobile version of Stephens. He looks like having a huge future.

Sanders - Kind of like a cross between Alzate & Molumby. He showed against Preston that he may find the Championship too easy, I’d like to see him against Manure on Wednesday. A lovely forward passing midfielder with massive potential.

White - I’d love to see how he’d do at DM for us.

March - Didn’t embarrass himself as defensive midfielder when we beat Leicester 1-4 a few years ago.

The Dutchman has such sublime skill but I just think the time has come.

Utter rubbish. Some of those players you have listed have hardly played any Premier league football if not none. Losing Stephens is fine but we need an experience player like Propper around the club.

I agree his time as a first choice midfielder has gone, but I'm not sure about getting rid - apart from Knocky, for whom we'd agreed a fee at the end of his loan, we've had to practically give away players if they are surplus to requirement this summer. If we could get a reasonable price for him, that'd be OK.

I'm not getting drawn into another Lallana debate but he is very injury prone. Not many of our central midfielders have 100 Premier league games under there belt.

No. We havent seen Davy play in the more advanced position he was/is used for the Netherlands side. I've never really understood why Chris Hughton never tried him in a more forward role

This is a bit of a myth.

Davy has 17 Dutch caps. He played attacking midfield in two games in 2017 against Belarus and Bulgaria. His other 15 international appearances have seen him as a central or defensive midfielder.

He has played AM once for us (which is a stretch because he was central with Stephens & Groß in a 4-3-3 last season). That aside, he has not played the position since 2017.

He has played about 16% of his career at AM. I think we have enough players in that role to not need to experiment with him there.

One of my favourite players but I can see why Bissouma & Alzate are going to be picked ahead of him on recent form. I also appreciate that Potter is keen to allow our talented youngsters to develop but I don't think he would want to see Propper leave. If we receive a bid of £15m+ then I imagine the board will talk to Potter but he isn't the sort of player we would be trying to offload

Not the right time, even if he has lost his place he is a superb squad player to fall back on. His moving on fee would not be that great IMHO.

It’s a depressing attitude. A blend of youth and experience is essential the squad and, while it’s exciting to see the youngsters taking us forward, when they have their first dips in form, having the likes of Propper around to help keep things on an even keel is important. If we get rid, a proven replacement of the same or better ability wouldn’t come cheap.

White is a CB and is settling into a back 3. March finally seems to have found his best position and it’s not in centre mid. Sanders/Molumby have no PL experience at all. We may need three centre mids tactically quite often.....we need Davy - even if he is 4th or 5th choice much of the time.

Absolutely this. In regards to March I see a player who was always class but was often pulled around because he was playing with teammates who were not good enough for the PL. now he is alongside Some real quality he’s playing far better himself because he can think about his own game and not have to carry half of the squad.
