Abysmal appointment. His interview yesterday after the game was embarrassing. Sounded like a league 2 manager. Badger is right 4-4-2 might work against run of the mill teams but he is going to get raped by some of the big boys.

Of course Jamie will be happy though proper manager innit, salt of the earth. Bollocks more like.

I know it's a harsh way to judge a football manager, but just listen to Sherwood talk and it will soon become clear he is thick. That wouldn't inspire confidence in me if I were a Spurs fan. Managers who can't string two sentences together might make a living in League Two but they rarely win trophies and championships or compete in the top six of the EPL. Also, while he clearly went for it at Southampton and was rightly applauded for their attacking approach that resulted in three goals, I can't help but feel that won't work in the long run. If that's his only plan he will soon be found out by just about every other manager in the division tactically. So for me, it has all the makings of a disaster and I can't quite see what makes Tim Sherwood a better option than Villas-Boas.

It's not like you to make a snap judgement based on one game!
:p

And he said after the Southampton game he didnt want it on short term basis.....

Has potential to be the first great English manager for a long time

Playing 4-4-2, two quick wingers, big man, little man upfront? He's a classic outdated English manager alright.

Even most League Two managers don't use "at the end of the day" as many times as Sherwood did in his interview yesterday. As you say, it really was embarrassing. I'd have been a bit surprised to hear the manager of Accrington or Torquay talk like that, let alone Tottenham.

He got the plaudits yesterday for having a go at Southampton purely because it's exactly what Spurs haven't been doing this season. But I don't think it will even take a Jose/Arsene to outsmart him, I imagine pretty much every EPL manager, even those near the bottom, will run rings around such a flawed system once they know what to prepare for each week.

All of this. Watch him get a few results early on then get outplayed every week once everyone's sussed him out.

It is amazing how people are knocking him without giving him a chance. He is obviously a man with a wealth of knowledge in football and also having done it which most of his players cant complain about and because he isn't as articulate as some on here he is is being slated and ridiculed.

Big risk that. I expect Levy was a fan of Sherwoods balls out attitude after AVB was given the gooner.

An unbelievable appointment.

Spurs - the circus that keeps on giving.

He was a solid enough top flight player in his day but he's way out of his depth in the Spurs hot seat. Good luck to him. He'll need it.

He might be able to get by with a shrewd No. 2 but I don't see the brains in the coaching staff, and I don't see who is going to be Sherwood's eyes and ears on the field. Ditch Baldini and bring in Hoddle as Director Of Football and it could work, although that's not likely to happen.

I listened to him talk twice yesterday, once in the main post-match press conference after the game at St Mary's and then as he did some pre-match stuff with three or four of us for the West Brom game on Boxing Day. He strung plenty of sentences together, and spoke interestingly about being seen as a Redknapp disciple and the need to give Spurs the sort of consistent identity and style that clubs such as Swansea have.

I'm sure you haven't confused a working class accent with a lack of intelligence, but I'd beg to suggest that a couple of clips on TV don't give much of an opportunity to judge someone's intelligence. AVB could talk the hind leg off a donkey in several languages, but what did that matter when the players were clearly not listening to him any more?

He captained a team to the Premier League title, so yes, I'd say he was "solid enough" ...

He's happy to roll the dice with what's already there where-as expect an outsider would want to wheel and deal. Good luck to him, would have liked him here but happy with Oscar

Till the end of next season

It must be true, you haven't mis-spelt it or used weird capitals...... odd to get it after just the two games.

Better than listening to a manager through a translator. IMHO

He's another press lovey ! What is it about him and redknapp that sports journalists like so much!?

Wouldn't they just give him till the end of the season if that was the case ?

because he said only wanted the job permenantly. so in July they just pay him off for the year (or he goes back to old role) when new manager comes in.

Really ? I know a number of people speak quite highly of him, but listening to his post-match interview on Sunday, he just talked garbled rubbish. I don't see this working TBH - not really bothered either way, but I'd rather have a strong Spurs in the mix at the top to make it at least 6 teams competing.
