1.20 a pint of Lowenbrau in the Red Cross in Reigate when I started out. Could get staircased for a tenner and get a bab on the way home. Last pint I had in a boozer cost me 6.80

£20 for a night out with mates in 1981.

Pubs in the Lanes - 8 pints x 90p.
Night club entry - £2.
Cloakroom - 50p.
A belly full of lager and Pernod’s or Vodka/Orange in the club - £?
Large kebab at 3am - £?
Shared taxi - £2?

We sometimes blew the taxi money, resulting in a 7 mile stagger home.

Forgot about night clubs. Didn’t go that often but cheap, easy to get into and easy to pull. Worth every penny.

They were the reason we went out, pubs a means to an end. Spoilt for choice in Brighton.

I got that bug at 16, I’ve never really been just a long sessions in pub person, it seemed an anticlimax without dance music and females.

Yeah, I got into clubs more in my 20’s. I’ve always loved a pub evening but always enjoyed a dance and ladies. Good times around Brighton. I moved here when I was 19 so that would be whin I started clubbing regularly .
There wasn’t much near Reigate. Millionaires in Redhill or Cinderella’s in Guildford.
Was such a treat to be able to go to a club in Brighton, a choice of clubs, then walk home via cheeky chicken or a bab shop.

Cloakroom?? - what was wrong with hiding your coats behind the speakers like the rest of us?

I read a book that covered your neck of the woods in the 80’s. Not much choice, Busby’s Redhill and Martine’s East Grinstead were popular.

I had 24 hr access to the office I worked in on Middle St, used to dump all our coats and bags etc and call a cab from there after. I think it was Jazz Rooms near there, or Casablancas maybe? Two floors one with live music, one with a DJ. Always a nice vibe in there.

Think Busby’s must have become Millionaires then The Embassy around ‘94/95.
Didn’t get to E. Grinstead.
Those places were like small versions of the Event, not great but good enough for a dance and all that. Especially as all pubs closed at 11:30 back then.

Went to a crazy firm’s do (a mates firm) on the top floor there, great night.
