i know a lot of you on here think i am a right twat and to be fair you are probably quite correct in that assumption, but this weekend it is three years since anastasia died. one of the first things we noticed when the fixture list came out last june was how we'll be playing you guys at withdean again at pretty much the same time as we did that season. callum still talks about what was read out at half time, btw.

really i just wanted to post and urge all you who are too lazy, idle, never got around to it or whatever reason to please, please register to donate blood, register with anthony nolan and sign up for the organ donation register. or even if you are already registered find out when the next blood donation session is and go along.

anastasia shared a six bed ward with, for the most part, the same five other children while she had her treatment towards the end. all six of those children have now died. four of them because they waited for organ transplants that never came. none of them will see their sixth birthdays. i hate to be morbid, heaven knows the world is a miserable enough place without me mithering on, but i never gave blood etc before anastasia got sick because i am lazy and my kids won't get sick and need a transfusion, a liver, or some marrow. you just never know what cruel twist of fate awaits.

i am a few pints the worse for wear just now, but there are certain people on here who remember anastasia birthday or when she died and it means a lot to us and especially to mrs starry who i know doesn't visit here too much anymore but it means a lot to us. so thank you.

I can't believe it was three years ago!

A very sad time for all but stangely uplifting because of the fantastic way in which your family dealt with everything. After reading the website blog at the time it certainly made me realise that the love of your family is the most important thing you can have.

Our thoughts are with you.

My thoughts are with you and your family Starry. I can't believe three years have passed.

I've been meaning to donate blood for a long time, but never actually got around to it. Reading this thread and remembering all that happened three years ago, has finally kicked my arse into gear, and I've just booked an appointment to donate blood for the first time on Monday.

You are all in my thoughts.

Can't believe three years have gone by now.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to donate due to a few reasons, like my anaemic episodes and something about all the past operations ive had. Shame really, as i'm immunised against practically everything nowadays. I'm on the organ donation list though.

I cannot tell you just how many units of blood that I've seen being given to patients though in nearly three years of nursing. They really are vital to people and really are needed very regularly. Bone marrow donations are also very important, a good friend of mine has leukemia, and if things get worse she may well need a transplant.

Thinking of you at this time, must be a horrible time every year.

thanks everyone.

yeah, time flies. it is insane to think it was three years ago, seems like yesterday but then i think since then we have had three new babies and it seems like forever ago. we miss her everyday, she would have been a wonderful big sister to the little ones and she was a fabulous little sister to the bigger ones who talk about her all the time. life is certainly cruel sometimes.

anyway, read edna's post with the locations and times for donation and go along if you can

Will never forget those posts and Anastasia's website. What you and others go through when losing young children is beyond words. My face was wet with tears when tucking up my little ones that particular night I read your posts/site.

I also give blood, ever since my Mrs had a transfusion after giving birth. As others have said, it doesnt hurt and is only half an hour out of your lives every 4 months.

All this said Starry, still dont agree with you on last season's Leeds points deduction whingeing but thats another (much smaller) story!

As is the fact I hope you continue your poor form on Saturday!!
