William the Conqueror introduced the lions as his personal coat of arms used two lions on a red background. Then Henry II married Eleanor of Aquitaine and added an extra lion to symbolise his marriage into that family.

So, ironically, the three lions are actually French.

Nah. I'm not having that. I'm no fan of William, but he was Norman and therefore of Viking stock.

They are representing England. The England badge has always had 3 lions, its been on the coat of arms since the 11th Century.

Sits back, pringles at the ready, waiting for someone to come along and accuse us of living in the 11th. century. with outdated 11th. century values.
