Oh yeah the good old days when you were packed in like sardines, not knowing when it was going to kick off. (Yep, not if but when).
No one wore colours so it was normal for someone to be suddenly battered for no reason at all.
Have to say I don't miss them at all!

Have just found this written by a Villa fan, on another forum, recollecting his weekender in Brighton back in the 70's.
I mentioned BHA on the main board , not sure when it was I think late seventies early eighties on a Bank Holiday we lost 1-0 anyway only about 500 V1LLA made the trip down, about 30 of us went the night before and had a little fun , chucked out of the B&B , Day of the game came unstuck against a mob but never knew who they were , just bish bash bang ! it becomes apparent a couple of games had been called off and Brighton had some visitors :yikes:
W had another little run in at the station and did OK , went into the ground , and there was a decent mob by the floodlights , but did not look like our lot , it turned out to be Chelsea , I think anyway the same bunch that had given us a slap before , so there was some sporadic :batter: and to be honest we were fcked as most the V1LLA were normals , Lo and Behold a right little firm come strolling into our end , once again it was obvious it was none of ours , We thought it was more Chelsea :yikes:
they settle down spy this mob of Chelsea and bang straight into them ! Fkin Portsmouth ! it was like a pantomime no fcker new who was who , and to top it all there was another mob in the BHA end playing up , could have been Arsenal ,
Anyway it was carnage , the railway station was total chaos with little mobs banging each other out the OB had no control , V1lla did quite well as we kept tight , but there was a lot of slaps given and taken
On the night we ended up in some pub downstairs, and the locals paid us a visit , this was quite naughty with one of the bouncers getting hurt quite badly , it was a very long night as we had people popping at us everywhere we went
And we still had no digs , ended up in a right shithole where we slept with our clothes on as the beds and the rooms were filthy
It was a long time ago , I know the one mob was deffo Pompey , and pretty Sure Chelsea was there, not sure but was told the other lot were the Arse ,
All in all a good Weekend , but a tad hectic
Got loads more accounts from other fans visits to us in the 70's
I may post a few if people are interested

A Spurs fan recalls his memories:
Remember when we first played them back in 77/8 in the old 2nd div. We had just come down from the 1st and they'd gone up from the 3rd and because they'd run clubs like Peterborough, Southend and Chesterfield they thought they were the dog's bollox, especially as they'd come away from WHL relatively unscathed earlier that season. Also Millwall had done f*** all that season and in previous years (isn't that right FL, Herman?)
Well on a sunny day in April the Yids had travelled o'nite in droves and caused f***ing havoc. Sadly one of ours got stabbed so it was even more inevitable that BHA would need taking down a peg or two on match day. Several of ours had got tickets for the N Stand and others from the East stand managed to run round the fence to access the N Stand. After about 15 mins a wave of Spurs made their way to the where the main throng of Brighton were standing and it was :batter: There were no perimeter fences and loads of BHA made their way onto the pitch while the players were taken off and the escapees were escorted to the S Stand. In the mean time the mighty Yids were continuing to :batter: endlessly with plod nowhere to be seen. It went on unabated for ages but the bent ****s deserved it. We ended up losing the match on the field but trounced them on the terraces. Afterwards I remember jumping on the terraces singing " Oh we're the barmy Tot'num Army la-da-da-da-da, Oh we're the barmy Tot'num Army la-da-da-da-day. Oh we're the barmy Tot'num Army la-da-da-da-da, Oh we're the barmy Tot'num Army la-da-da-da-day and so on. W Ham came down a few months later but couldn't make the same impact as us by getting the game stopped (were u there OP and AD23, or was too far for u to travel?)
As u can see I enjoyed the day from an observational stance rather than being pro-active. However that was to change in 1979/80 when we were both playing in the top flight. Me and the lads were in town early getting tanked up and such was our reputation from our previous match that there were BHA supporters wearing Spurs badges as they were shitting it. There was quite a few of us in the N Stand but there was a line of OB preventing us from attacking the Seaweeds. Ricky V illa did a foul early on and the Seaweeds were chanting "off, off, off, off" and we were shouting "on, on, on, on" Fortunately Ricky got away with a booking. As the following week we were playing Swindon in the FA Cup and the song went up " IF u've all godda ticket, clap yr hands" and the whole of us infiltrators joined in. Then as I hadn't got a ticket (although I saw the replay) I started "If u HAVENT godda ticket, clap yr hands" and everyone joined in with that as well, LOL. Anyway half time came and we hadn't penetrated police lines. I went for a jimmy in the bogs at the back and realised u could acces the N Stand where all the BHA were , so after the 2nd half started and they started applauding at some bollox, it was time to wade in. Got battered but managed to stay on my feet and b: managed to haul me back with the Yid contingent. Excitement over for another year with over 40 arrests that day.
When we played them in 80/81 I couldn't be arsed to infiltrate again although a few did but f*** all really happened. I do remember this Brighton tit with a flag which said "You'll never crack our Brighton Rock" We cracked up laughing and started singing "Who's the wanker, who's the wanker, who's the wanker with the flag?" LOL. Can't remember the f***ing result of the match.
I went once more for an evening match in 81/2 and f*** all happened, so I never went again.

Brentford
one of Brentford's best ever turnouts was down there :thumbup: ........sept 87, first time we'd played them since the mid 70's, took 2,000 down there which was pretty decent as we were only getting 3500 average home crowds then ( :yikes: ).......before the game massive ruck in the park opposite involving 50-60 of bees main mob who'd come down by private coach and others who'd arrived by train with equal numbers of BHA.......ended with BHA being evicted from the park :rockin:
constant abuse and missile throwing by the dividing fence in the ground in the corner and then on full time brentford mob numbering 100 plus walking down past the home end and scattering all the BHA waiting there.......running battles all the way to their main pub in hove where they made a bit of a stand but old bill restored order eventually.........heard there were sporadic incidents in brighton town centre all night with the locals getting the better of it.........oh, and we lost 2-1 on the pitchldboy:
must just mention that 2 months later they came down to us in the fa cup and
run riot after the game all over brentford.......turned up with a massive mob and really made us pay for the sept events.........set off a chain reaction of major trouble at all our games for the next few years

Millwall- The birth of the infamous Treatment trademark - The Surgical mask
brighton never really had a firm on the streets whenever we payed them a visit in the 70s
but we always smashed that pub up on the corner as you come out of the station
and what you got to remember is that brighton was the first ground that treatment showed their face
that was the ground where we pulled out the surgical masks for the first time, all done as a bit of a piss take, but it caught on and treatment was started
