I thought he was appalling, some of the Burnley elbows were yellow maybe even red card challenges. Gave nearly all the 50/50s to the thugs too

Terrible, now know how Chelsea and Arsenal felt like having those joke officials last season.

Lowered their standards of officiating to suit Burnley's medieval style of play.

I can understand accidental elbows when both players are jumping to head a ball, as you need arms to help you get height, but leading with your elbow into a collision when the ball is on the ground is reckless.
Whatever happened to shoulder barges?

Sometimes the arms can naturally go up and/or out to protect a space around the ball and keep opposing players away.

When it's done at speed, it may look considerably worse than what was originally intended.

For me, it was just a decent game of football between 2 committed sides with physicality and some full-bloodied challenges, but nothing more than that.

Deliberate elbows in the face and neck, pushing of players in the back resulting in free kicks to the offender is OK? Going in for balls that are the keepers studs up? An abusive manager in the ear of the fourth official all game? This is not park football where the ref fears for his life.

We can agree to disagree but today’s ref was the weakest I have seen all season imo.

Yes, the ref made a mistake with the award of the freekick against Dunk and missed the push in his back previously.

It's a foul and a bit of 'dark arts' maybe, but certainly nothing that warranted anything more than a freekick.

I'm sure something similar happens in most games from parks to Premier League.

No outrage needed for this.

I believe that the rule hasn’t changed, but they are generally given as fouls against the stronger player nowadays. I’ve noticed it quite a lot this season.

We're so nice, tip our brow as a club and move on. If we were more aggressive as a club tonight we'd be on tv complaining but we aren't. One who does, through his experience is Lallana who gets in the ear of refs. To me it was no surprise we improved when he come on, experience counts for so much. Getting in the ear does reap rewards.

Barnes has never been shy of using his physique to make an impact. Remember him putting the keeper in the net when he came on as a sub at the Amex!

It'll be interesting to see where the ball was when Barnes starts to make his lunge towards it. If it's loose, the striker's probably entitled to go for it.

But I'll watch it again on MOTD later and will happily revise my call on it if I'm wrong.
