I particularly dislike the signs outside Haywards Heath that call it 'the *heart* of Mid Sussex' with a red heart instead of a word. Naff.

I'm always annoyed by 'Welcome to Staffordshire - the Creative County'.

'Creative', to me, sounds like what the stupid kid at school is - I imagine his teacher saying "well, he can't read and tends to lose crayons up his nose - but he is creative".

The Creative County - sounds to me like the 'we're not good at anthing so we'll say we're Creative' County.

Luton's Looking Up stated the signs when I used to live five miles down the road in the 80s.

It was a craphole then, and it's a craphole now.

I love the county rivalry. A friend of mine once told me that a village in Suffolk, near the border with Norfolk (sorry can't remember the name), has an old Clock Tower with clocks only on three sides. The fourth side, facing Norfolk is blank because "they wont give Norfolk the time of day". That's pure hate that is.

It's not Brandon is it? Drive through it everyday, you enter Norfolk (Nelson's County, apparently) as you cross the level crossing, about 300 yards away from what I think is a clocktower in the village centre. OOh, you have just made my drive that little bit more interesting tomorrow!

At least it's true though.

Not a county sign, granted, but this used to puzzle me. Why boast that Clapham is the busiest station? Surely that would make you want to avoid it?

This is the beautifully trite Norfolk marketing people's slogan at the moment (and not, as I found on one page when looking for this, "Norfolking Your Sister" :D)

What bothers me about that sign(apart from the missing apostrophe) is that Birmingham New Street also has a sign claiming to to be Britain's busiest station.

As far as I can see, they're both places where people will be in a hurry to get away fast.

Always good to have a county claim to fame that nobody has EVER heard of.

The marketing gurus in Preston or Lancaster must be very proud of this one.
