Albion have taken Nottingham Forest prospect Matt Thornhill on a long-term loan deal until January 2nd 2010; with Joel Lynch set to move in the opposite direction on a permanent deal for an initial fee of £200,000.
Highly-rated midfielder Thornhill becomes Russell Slade's seventh new signing of the close season, and will make his Albion bow at Crawley on Friday night.
An energetic attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, he has scored five goals in 21 starting appearances, plus 23 from the bench, ever since breaking into the Forest first team the season before last.
Albion boss Slade, who has been chasing the youngster throughout the summer, said, "He's a young midfielder who has huge potential and Forest rate him very highly.
"Matt played for Forest at Championship level last season and is an excellent athlete and 6ft 1ins tall. He is the type of player who likes to get in the box and affect the game."
In a separate deal, Albion have also agreed terms with Forest regarding Lynch; with the deal set to be completed tomorrow subject to Lynch successfully completing a medical at 5.30pm this evening.
The 21-year-old defender will move to the City Ground for an initial fee of £200,000. The deal also includes a potential extra £75,000 based on appearances and a 25 per cent sell-on clause.
Slade added, "As a club we wish him all the best. He spent a large part of last season on loan and impressed Forest. They retained their interest through the close season and we have agreed a deal which is right for the club."
Meanwhile, Slade also confirmed Paul Ifill's short trial with Albion has ended, after the former Palace and Millwall man agreed a two-year deal with New Zealand-based A League side Wellington Phoenix.
