LATICS RELEASE THOME
Emerson Thome has been allowed to leave Wigan after 18 months with the
Barclays Premiership club.
Thome, who started his professional career with Benfica, played for Sheffield
Wednesday, Chelsea, Bolton and Sunderland before joining the Latics.
The 34-year-old centre-back made only 20 appearances during his time at the
JJB Stadium, with just three this season, all of those in the Carling Cup.
The last of those was at the end of November in a 1-0 fourth-round victory
over Newcastle in which he sustained a cheekbone injury.
Manager Paul Jewell said: ``Emo is a great character, a good man and I've
enjoyed working with him.
``It's always sad when a player leaves, but we've parted on good terms and
both the club and I wish him all the very best for the future.''
