This. The idea that a top-top club (channeling the Redknapps, there) would come in for a manager who has won f*** all is typical Albion fan delusions of grandeur. After the Potter-to-Chelsea fiasco, the likelihood of an RDZ steal is even less. If RDZ goes anywhere in the summer . . . . it has Everton and Wet Sham written all over it.
Wishful thinking head in the sand stuff imho. RDZ has been continually mentioned as a stand out candidate for top jobs by talking heads within the game beyond the usual media nonsense. As we know, clubs base their hiring/firing algorithms on more than just 'winning something'. I also doubt RDZ would even look at jobs like Everton or West Ham.

Then he might as well stay with us for another year or two
Yeah, if anyone thinks frustration with BHA not buying the players he wants will be resolved by going to Barca need to give their head a wobble. :lolol:

It is becoming increasingly obvious to me though that in the light of changing financial conditions/regulations in top flight football combined with top player’s wage structures becoming unsustainable for many clubs, our development towards a sustainable business model at Brighton (ie one that doesn’t have an over-reliance on owner funding) is one that has longterm longevity and one that will continue keep us on a stable trajectory imo. The boom and bust economics are clearly not working for smaller clubs while the richer ones are hitting a ceiling on spending that leaves them saddled with operating cash flow problems that cripple their financial health and cause them to overspend to maintain pitchside performances - it is only so long before a business model like that could come crashing down.

The very top echelon of clubs - Bayern, Barça, City, Liverpool... Will be looking for managers with a stronger track record of achievement.

It's the next step down the ladder which are a threat and more likely to take the risk on RDZ - clubs like Dortmund, Milan, maybe even Man U (though they don't see themselves in this group) who are a threat. Clubs with resources who can win occasional but not regular trophies.

What had Arteta won before becoming Arsenal manager? What had Xavi won before getting the Barca job?

They both had long personal histories with those clubs and were as a result very well known and thought of by the club hierarchies.

RDZ is not.
So you're saying we should panic about AC Milan, then...

This discussion came up in the office today. I declared he may stay another season, the 2 people whose football understanding/ knowledge I respect both instantly responded that he will definitely go.
I know this isn’t ITK but it was interesting that we are clearly perceived as a successful stepping stone by those on the outside of our Albion bubble

Barca can't afford to sack Xavi and as a legend they're reluctant to
But why announce it NOW, as opposed to at the end of the season?

It’s a mixed picture.

Liverpool are well run financially, nowhere near FFP / P&S restrictions, the only debts are medium term bank and owner loans Ioan to fund new infrastructure. I suspect Bayern are well run too. Their income is 3x or more greater than the Albion’s and CL money is about to increase by 40%.

Of smaller clubs, in this country Brighton and Brentford are the exception that prove the rule …. that you touch on.

Indeed to some extent but did say ‘many’ clubs not all and wasn’t trying to make in depth analysis of the market- I think I make a fair assessment of where the industry is at the moment and how Brighton operates within that..

Liverpool and Bayern that you mention, are doing ok but my point was to demonstrate that IMO our business strategy is one that works better than others in top flight football at the moment, one that is envied and is bringing us success. Why do people think Boehly is ‘fixated‘ on trying to transplant our successful “buy cheap, sell high“ model into Chelsea by raiding our back room boys and young talent? It won’t work because the skills/talent of our individual staffers and young players, are nurtured within a supportive training culture and partnership ethos at the Club that Chelsea simply don’t replicate, nor do they have Tony Bloom’s predictive modelling and interpretive tools of player data available to everyone for scouting. It’s like going out and buying the most expensive tennis rackets and whites, imagining that will win you a grand slam.

As far as Tuchel is concerned, I’ve always liked him, he is a passionate project builder but he is also the master of finding excuses for poor performances that blames everyone except himself which after years of Klippity at Liverpool won’t go down well with the Reds fans imo. I suspect Tuchel would be happier going for Barca or another LaLiga team given his management style and personality. I don’t think RDZ is at the level he could compete with Tuchel for Barca or Liverpool frankly nor with Alonso who is a contender for Liverpool too but I can see Ratcliffe also being interested in Tuchel for Man U or maybe Newcastle so who knows what other movements we might see in top flight management before the season is out.

Exciting times, lots of top flight managers on the move by the end of this season - it usually just takes one big announcement (in this case it was Klopp) to set the ripple effects in motion in the transfer market. Clubs tend not to sack managers unless a replacement is available. I suspect if we qualify for Europe next season, RDZ may well think our sustainable approach is a better bet for now than moving to a club where the pressure of qualifying for Champions League places to ensure the financial stability of a Club puts mangers in a very precarious position with their owners these days.

It we don’t qualify for Europe, RDZ will likely be part of the growing group of top flight managers looking for new jobs.

Totally agree, it won’t for Chelsea. Largely because the owners won’t hold their nerve in buying lesser known cheaper players and then blooding them in PL games at 0-0. Instead, on repeat, buying the ‘finished article’.

Tuchel, I’ll be stunned if he manages Liverpool. He’s not personable. Klopp, from the very first evening he signed, he got to personally know supporters. Allied to his exemplary man-management and game management.

RDZ, I can see him taking the Barca job if offered, but it’s now a poisoned chalice. They mortgaged several years income ahead, they’re pot-less. Real are similar but with the legacy of being Franco’s club (the establishment), they keep pulling financial rabbits out of the hat eg a complete rebuild of ‘names’, the wages to Bellingham and now to Mbappe. Perez was and is desperate for ESL money, revealing their true financial position. But he’ll do anything by hook or crook to usurp Barca.
