I know that if a team has a player sent off during the match it doesn't affect a penalty shootout in that they are allowed to have the same amount of players take penalties, but I didn't know the rules around the circs last night.
My opinion is that if a goalkeeper receives a second yellow in a shoot out, then they should be sent off and the substitute goalkeeper take their place.

If Team A finishes a game with 10 men, and it goes to penalties, then Team B have to nominate one of their remaining players to NOT be involved in (taking a penalty at any point in) the shoot-out. This gives them a tiny advantage, in that they get to rule out their least proficient taker (usually the goalkeeper, or perhaps Solly March). If the shoot-out gets to an 11th kick, then the first takers come back round.

My opinion is that if a goalkeeper receives a second yellow, then they should be sent off and the substitute goalkeeper take their place.

Too open to abuse. If you had a penalty saving specialist on your bench, but had used all your subs, you could deliberately get yellows, to have your Jasper Cillessen replaced by your Tim Krul.

There are certain players I absolutely detest. Sock boy Grealish is one, Bruno Fernandes is another on the list, Tarkowski because he’s a snide thug. Add to that Pickford and his dramatic throwing himself to the floor clutching the ball to waste even more time than previously. But the absolute pinnacle of piss taking shithousery goes to Martinez. An absolute knobend of everything that makes me seeth during a game. I hope, I really sincerely do, that he gets sent off when we play Villa in a few weeks time, preferably after committing a couple of absolute howlers in letting in a goal or more.
Someone had to take Kasper Schmeichel's place. I spent seasons hoping the same for him in matches against us. It never worked. He usually just saved a penalty. His anger at the two disallowed goals in our 2-1 win was very funny though.

Yes good point. It's a shame sport has come to this when as you suggest, it could be 'dark arts tactical'!

Why not just send them off and have no substitute? Can you bring on an attacker during the shootout. If not, why change it for the keeper?

I thought you couldn't nominate the goalkeeper in that scenario as the player is not allowed to take part in any part of the shootout. It would have to be an outfield player.

Not so much the red carrying over as you can only use the players on the field of play at the final whistle.
Here's another thought. Martinez now has two yellow cards, does he miss the next game?
Yes. He is banned for semi final first leg 👍

I knew this rule. But I was barely paying attention to the game (and had the volume down) so I missed that he was booked during the game and didn't understand why it looked so dramatic.

Fair point.

He actually has three for the tournament which is an instant one match ban. Sky Sports are saying UEFA are discussing whether he should receive that punishment or not. Can't see what there is to discuss to be honest.
Well. Club badges always have to be checked

Villa have been sprinkled with fairy dust this season, luckiest club in the PL as well as being the biggest shitehousers. Really hope whoever they play next knocks them out
