It's a massive blow. Losing our captain and (arguably) our best defender cannot be seen as anything else in my opinion.

What might soften that blow is King being fit to play in every game, which I just can't see. None of our other centre backs are anywhere near as good as Ferdinand.

Watchin the boats go by
I'm with HP on this one. Gotta be honest when it first happened i though 'ah well, Rio's been a bit shit recently hasn't he so no big loss' but then when I realised that if King isn't fit it means starting in the World Cup Finals is either Carragher, Upson or Dawson its made me realise what a big loss this actually is

King Cannot play every game. probably one in two or maybe three, i would rather Dawson or Upson strike up a playing understanding with terry and stick with that rather than throwing in King at every oppurtunity. Ferdinand is a decent player but he last year has been injury ridden so not exactly the world cup player we needed in terms of form.

So, just to clarify, all the experts are gutted he is going home and his teammates think it is a massive blow. But some geezers in a pub aren't "bothered" about it. ???

It is a massive blow, Ferdinand is one of our best defenders, losing him is OBVIOUSLY a blow.

he hardly played this season on his day ge is up there with the best BUT on current form dawson desrves his place in the 23 ahead of ferdinard

I think it is a big blow. Losing any of the main players is a big blow just before the tournament. If i was going to pick a player though that has the potential for injury it would of been King or Ferdinand(just because he has had a terrible season for injuries)

What made me laugh was Sky News did the story then decided to follow this with one of those dumb emails from dumb supporters. Something along the lines of Ferdinand isn't good enough to be in the squad and Gerrard is a better choice of captain and that Carragher is a much better defender. Wonder which team they support!!!! Carragher is a liability and, with better officials over the last couple of years would have given away numerous penalties.

of al lthe players, in all the teams ,why on earth does the English team end up with a load of crocks?

Robben
Drogba
Mikel
etc.

There are plentyof players out of the world cup in recent weeks but most of them don't feature on the back pages of our marvellous media.
