Thanks!
I'm not sure how many 'approvals' we need before gaining another green square.
Same to you 'Barrel of fun', cracking post
Thanks!

If you click on your own 'star' you will see your own score.
Other than that, I think the intention is that most of it is 'secret' so that people don't use prior votes to influence their own. Human nature is probably such that many will immediately seek to give a negative to someone that gave a negative to them. There are some extensions I can add that will mean you can see what has been said about you, but I've purposely not added these yet for the reason just given.
And, just to reiterate again: I added this as it was requested by several people. It's built into vBulletin so didn't take me any time at all - just flicked the virtual switch. If it doesn't really add much, then I'll happily turn it off again. So, if you don't like it, just ignore it - it's hardly intrusive.
It was something a few people requested on my "If you ran NSC, what would you do" thread, so I turned it on last night.
I'll give the specifics later, but in brief you click the star below someone's name and choose to give them positive or negative reputation if you feel their post warrants it.
The weight of what you give is based on many things such as length of time you've been registered, number of posts etc. In short - if you're a long-standing frequent user, it is deemed that your view is likely to hold more weight than someone who has recently joined.
So, for example I noticed last night that BoF currently has a 'reputation power' of 47, so if he votes on you, then you gain (or lose) 47 points. By contrast a new user (and complete newbies are not allowed to vote) will only give (or takeaway) 1 point.
The green pips are an indication of your reputation - obviously we've all only got 1 now as it's only just been turned on. The words, such as 'on a distinguished road' are the default vBulletin words - I'll probably Albion-ise them when I have time so they're more relevant.
Or, if it all turns out to be crap, I'll turn it off again.
That's what the green dot next to you're name is for!
True, I've got PMs, avatars and signatures turned off, I never bother with my 'Notifications', (which I noticed recently had got up to 91 before somehow resetting itself when I looked at my profile), but like it or not the bells and whistles do get in the way a bit. We've already got people saying in standard posts: Look at my avatar! Check My signature! Facebook me! Tweet me! Follow me! At the moment that's just a bit of low-level irritating noise, but with the Rep feature you'll get (as I've seen on other forums) posts along the lines of: "Hey have some rep!", "Wow I'm negging you for that", "Why you negging me?","Never mind I'll rep you instead", "Thanks, don't know why he negged me", etc. It's especially bad if people can see the comments that have been left by the person doing the repping.
It's all a little bit 6th form, but it could be good binfest material mind.
And some more, and some for you too wozzaThis. Have some rep.
I'm on 2 pips!
Hang on, how do you see your points and any messages (if received)?
It's interesting to see everyones being nice to each other on this thread - is this the first effect of the rep counter?
Click on the star under your name and it will give you total number of points and also any messages people have anonymously left about that particular post (great idea, that).
According to bozza, a high negative score is a way of identifying the "trollers and abusers" of this forum. It will also get you labelled as a Palace season ticket holder.
(and they wonder some people get so f***ed off with NSC...........)
3. ...By every metric available to me, NSC is more popular and more widely used than ever before. So something somewhere seems to be working.
And The Super Soaraway Sun is still the most widely read newspaper.
Marvellous.
