I think the system will work better next time. It didn't work for me as I didn't know my Fan Number or have my details up to date, since I always phone for my tickets. I've got all my 'shit' together now, so next time it'll be a piece of pi$$.

It's not really though is it. Because worrying about how long it takes to become a member is only an issue since ticketing for the Villa game. Normally you wouldn't care if it took a month. Also there was nearly a week between the draw & the tickets going on sale to get a membership instead of leaving it until the ticket office are busy with other things.

Yes it really is.

I'm not talking in the contex of the villa game, just in the interests of making things simpler for people in general. If someone wants to become a white member for MK dons at the end of the season why can't it be done online, it's less paper for customer and staff.

If there's a good reason why they have to have a paper form I'll accept the answer, but there's no point in just shouting someone down for making a constructive criticism.

The system works, granted it struggled a bit under pressure early mornings, its a small minority of people who struggled with it

I'd like to think I was giving an opposing point of view rather than shouting you down. I fully accept that you are giving a constructive critisism & I don't have a definitive answer. I do however stand by the fact that it really is only an issue because of this one game & surely people who are already members should expect an easier ride when ordering.

It does seem a somewhat strange functional omission that member registration can not be undertaken wholly online.

I was going to add that it was even more so when one looks at Everton's online ticking system which uses the exact same IRIS SPORT system as ours...

Online membership - Untitled

...but you have to be registered before you can buy membership. But you can register online...

Online registration https://www.evertonfc.talent-sport.co.uk/PagesPublic/Profile/Registration.aspx

...but it sounds like you can't make an online purchase immediately.

Maybe they have to check anyone applying for membership doesn't have previous?

Because that member will need to be verified by a human to ensure they are not on a banned list.

A phone call to the ticket office is required by Everton, which I presume triggers that check immediately.

Can't get away from the human intervention.

Incorrect data entry would be the main problem with paper forms and I suspect some bad handwriting has led to some email addresses not being entered correctly on ours.

and another piece of fun is when you have a number, and an email from the club quoting that number but when entered it is not recognised.
no wonder I buy by phone.Villa away would have been a bonus(a ground I have not yet got to,currently seen the Albion at 42-lost a few to the conference)but the whole system is a bit pound shop and I wont loose sleep over missing it.

No, I don't buy it (no pun intended).

Firstly, the Liverpool site (link above) and the Manchester City site, which I also checked, allow online registration and membership.

Secondly, I would expect this system to allow some form of two-stage process...

1. User registers online, registration sits in 'verification queue'.
2. Staff member reviews and validate new member in verification queue and progresses to full member when appropriate.

This still minimises the administrative burden and timely/error-prone data re-keying.

.. and in what way does that contradict what I've just posted :lolol:

I'd imagine it comes down to policy, rather than purely function. Don't Everton fans have a reputation for being a little bit nawty ?

I reckon simply the Everton procedure gets your verification done a bit quicker.

I wonder how many of those clubs print a form off and put it in a file :)

I'm not a luddite, but I seen so many IT systems go wrong when first installed. From experience it usually a case of computer science (or these days simply business graduates or project managers THINKING they understand computers or the job in hand) drawing a few sqiggles and thinking that's it.

I didn't have enough in my account
:nono:

I didn't know my Fan Number or have my details up to date

Obviously if people were more organised then none of this would happen

:facepalm::shrug::wozza:

Its either that or go to the shop and hand in the form (which isn't realistic for most fans)

It's not realistic for me to go to the shop - I live in Oxfordshire. But yesterday, I scrambled down to the poxy newsagents in the town (despite my broken elbow, and the snow/ice, and a wife who needed to get to work) and the little old lady behind the counter FAXED three membership forms off for three mates of mine. The ticket office staff had processed the details yesterday, and I was able to buy 6 tickets today.

All sorted. Tidy. End of.

I didn't actually know my fan number, etc, but the club have my email address (I have a Blue membership) and they emailed me my details. It was then, as you say, a piece of pi$$.

I'm a blue member and use the club system about a dozen times a season. I have always found the ticket office staff polite, helpful and knowledgeable. The online system is a bit clunky but it will get there in time.
