It is bonkers. I'm not even sure why he was hounded out of playing for NI. You'd have thought even among the unwashed in the unionist community that they would have realised that his presence in a NI jersey somehow validated the state, wouldn't you?

I guess they are a law unto themselves in that part of the world. No doubt it's all the fault of the English though.

I don't understand this vitriol for Lennon too, wasn't Martin O'Neill also a Catholic Ulster man? Yet he got nothing like the sh1t that Lennon gets. Anyone know the reason why Lennon is so despised?

He is known as The Lurgan Bigot by the proddies in that region. I'm guessing he's far from whiter than white.

Yeah, he's ginger! No, kidding aside this just shows that the lunatic fringe exists on both sides & that those right wing bigots will stoop to any depth to get their way. Neil Lennon is in fact a credit to Northern Ireland & did try bridge the divide by playing for N.I as it has historically been a Protestant team. As mentioned Martin O'Neill before him tried bridging the divide as I'm sure had several others. I myself am a N.I born Catholic & am of the belief that we should all try building a better united future for the province.
Unfortunately these days it is as much about money that the violence continues. There are so many rackets what with protection & drug dealing that these thugs will never give up. The political element is still an issue but that is being dealt with but what can be more difficult to deal with is the pure hatred that small minded people from both sides of the divide harbour for one another. It is inbreed (much like those involved) in them & only through education of the younger generation will this die out, hopefully. I am astounded that the pavements are still painted red, white & blue or green, white & gold on opposite sides of the street & that by crossing over you can leave yourself vulnerable to abuse/ attack.
I do not condone violence & hope that in the not too distant future people of N.I will learn to live in peace because there is no future without that becoming reality. Sadly the thugs from the various groups that are nothing but gangs whose only real interest is to continue the fighting so that they can earn money from some racket or another.
Shame on them all for denying a brighter future for their own children.

Niall McGinn and Paddy McCourt also got the threats the same time Lennon did I do believe when it first happened a little while back.

Well bullets posted to them in the mail anyway.

I seem to remember he may have made some comment that set him up as a hate figure when a player? Or some action? No doubt something totally and utterly innocuous to sane, unbrainwashed gentlefolk. It only takes a few violent hateful thugs doesn't it.
