Whoosh and, indeed, whoosh.

Hopefully Duffy will get more match fit during the mini break as he didn't look it on Saturday. And, on a serious note, if we are going to use him then use him as a stopper. The attempted Dunk-like pass that went straight into touch was only surpassed by the backing off that gifted Watford their goal (though he was initially stitched up by both the poor pass from Mooy and the lack of midfield).

This is funny. It was a superb shot. If Duffy gifted them their goal what about the OG?!! Hilarious nonsense from you there, deliberate I'm sure.

Most goals come from "mistakes". Keeper, defender, midfielder coulda, shoulda done better there...

It was meant to be a humorous reference to a thread about Webster. The NSC parlance is you've been whooshed.

Really, I'm advancing in years one way and NSC appears to be going in the other direction.

Yes, just posted it above /\

It was definitely self-deprecating.

I read it as "Note to self, Shane. Don't be a dick with the ball. Know your limits"

Didn't he post, "head it or kick it Son"

Tee hee!

To be honest Webster needed a break from the firing line. Duffy didn't fill himself with glory in the first half, but I don't think many defenders could cope with Doucoure running at them like that, unless they made a big gamble to go in for the tackle.

But then Duffy did step up second half, became his usual dominant self in the air. He has been out for a while. And you'll agree that the goals we've been conceding from set-pieces in recent games has become a worry.

I would keep him for Sheffield, and then reconsider for Palace where we are going to get a lot of possession.

Duffy's footwork is always scary though. I can't say I ever have any confidence when he gets the ball and is being closed down.

This.
Duffy sorted himself out at half-time. Should start the majority of games from now on IMO.

This might be one game where I would play Duffy, they have some bruisers and love to chuck crosses over.

That would be it for a while though, certainly not v Wolves and their football.

It was a superb shot because he was under no pressure. Any PL attacking player should be able to hit the corner when they have five yards of space in every direction. Should have been closed down. In mitigation though - and what I put in the post you quoted - it's a decision he had to make because of a poor pass and lack of midfield cover.

My word people need to learn it sometimes takes time to adjust when you’re in and out of a team. Lack of match practice can take a toll. He played badly Sat, but anyone with half a brain could see one of the co tribute game factors was clearly a lack of match time.

Problem is, as I see it, there are always mitigating circumstances or possible causes offered up for players under performing.

What we need, in our perilous position, are results with performances and not excuses.

Chances are neither of them will be first choice next season.

Neither of them have really taken the opportunities given to them this season, Duffy looks uncomfortable in what he is being asked to do and Webster has struggled with His concentration and the step up.

Nah, disagree. It was an "absolute screamer" on the tv commentary. Duffy should have done better, blocked or clattered him but was twisting around all over the place - but i still think you're being unfair imo.

Apart from any of our squad it would seem...

Majority of the blame with Mooy for me, and I think he's got off lightly compared to other players for this and the Villa goal, even his closer down for one of the West Ham goals. We'd just completed 3x1 touch passes to evade a high press when Mooy got the ball in space, who turned, took a touch, took another touch, took too long and lost the ball when behind him players are still getting back in position. Yeah, Duffy could have done better, but that is 80% on Mooy that goal. And then with the goal gaping and a chance to redeem himself, can't find a corner as per your statement above. Why would you need midfield cover? Mooy was playing CM, he should know he loses it = defense in trouble.

This has been my hang up all season.

The team play one way:-

'Evade a high press'.

Comparatively speaking it does that very well, all things considered.
We might have a few heart stopping moments, but the players don't.

They get the job done, they maneuver the opposition into the position they've been working for and...

....nothing.

Nobody pulls the trigger and releases the ball forward, past their midfield and beyond the full backs.

Agreed. Or a more stable team with less tinkering at present.

2 areas that completely kills us when confidence is low; 1) less players are genuinely looking for the ball and getting into really good positions, 2) players like Mooy take too much time because they don't have the instinctive confidence to fire a pass off quick. This obviously has the double effect of exactly what you say, very few chances on goal created, because you're simply not getting the opposition out of position.

Confirmed just then when watching the opener ITV SE local news:

A mistake by Mooy initially, that’s not uncommon by CM’ers in that part of the pitch.

But followed by all of our many bodies back, back peddling en masse, and leaving an invitingly wide gap for a placed goal. Amateurish by everyone involved.

Not too dissimilar to the McBurnie goal?
