...it's in all the papers saying it's bad but none of them say why. What does it mean?

i understand if u earned under £18,000 you used to have 10p taken from ur wages out of every pound, but have scrapped that, so now people have 20p taken out of it instead

I kind of guessed it was something like that but wasn't sure. Well that's me taking it up the shit box then.

Tax is tax, however surely the danger here for Labour is the fact that it is likely to hit traditional Labour supporters hardest and how that will translate itself at the ballot box ?

The tax allowance means that you dont pay any tax on a certain proportion of your wages , after that limit is reached you now pay 20% income tax. Previously there was a 10% rate stage in between paying zero and 22%. What this basically means is that if you are a low wage earner you're paying tax at 20% after the tax allowance limit is reached. Anyone earning more decent money will be slightly better off because they are now only paying 20% instead of 22% even if they go on to pay the higher rate of 40%.

So, it's helping the well-off and neglecting the less well-off AGAIN? Shocking

And everyone's known about it for a year, too. Can't think why left-wing Labour MPs and the Tories are protesting about it now. It can't possibly be political opportunism, could it?

Another foot shooting exercise by the Labour Government. You'd think they didn't want to get re-elected.

I dont think Labour wants to win a 4th term because having just f***ed up the economy , they are going to be seen in a similar light to the 18 years of Tory misrule under Thatcher and Major. In fact Blair and Brown could go down in history as the worst political double act EVER. If the Tories get back in, it will give Labour more time to re-invent itself and by the time they get back into government the electorate will have conveniently forgotten the despot and the fool.

I'll go from paying 22p to 20p in the pound.
my missus will go from paying 10p to 20p in the pound.

That means that overall, the government will be f***ing us up the arse.

Surprise.

I cannot see those people deserting Labour. It will be the ones who ran to John Major in 92 when Kinnock said they may have to put a penny on tax to fund public services and the less well off who will sneak off.
Horrible selfish lot.
