Well played Captain Cook. A fine innings under intense pressure. Class is permanent
I thought it was all about the slogging. Thanks for educating me.Test match cricket is more than just smacking the ball around quickly. Build a big score, grind the opposition down, the pressurise them when they get to bat.

247 in the day is pretty slow going by modern standards, still good news for Cook to get a score. That'll give him a bit of confidence.
Apologies...feeling a bit tetchy today.Sorry, my comment was not meant to be patronising.
Looking forward to it. Just got a bit bored today.Platform laid for our stroke makers and biffers to get us up to 500 an hour before close. Couldn't be set up better for Butler on debut to smash the bowlers on debut.

500 an hour ? Even I'd go to see that !
Great stuff.
I see that Alec Stewart's total of 8463 is also his birthday - 8th April 1963! Good bit of trivia that.
Alec Stewart was one of my favourite players of yesteryear. He didn't have the best start to his test career and didn't look like he had the necessary quality but he worked extremely hard at his game and turned himself into a top quality test player.
280/2 98 overs. Steady start so far. Time to put some pressure on them and up the scoring rate.
