Y=X to the power of n, where x=10. n is the log. But not the natural log. Obviously. FFS!

I last used a log table to prop up a wonky real table....A pint of brown and mild for 20p and 21p for a packet of Carlton premium! Just remembered them. About the same time as the great ladybird summer of '76. God that was a hot one

That it’s possible to do a maths exam without a calculator.

I've never even seen a slide rule.

There was both a non calculator exam and a mental maths exam when I was at school in the 2000s.

The mental maths exam was played on a tape.

To be honest, I'm a little concerned at how many of the things listed on this thread I do remember.

Taking 2p out with you, just in case you needed to phone home from a call box in an emergency, or phoning the operator to reverse the charges, even though you knew you’d get told off for doing so, then asking for a lift.

Videoplus+ punching about 10 digits into your video, to record completely the wrong program.

TV finishing at the end of the day (midnight?) and then the test card coming on until 6am. None of this 24hrs TV lark.

And didn't the BBC play the National Anthem at night at the end of the day?

Knocking round the estate for 50p's for the electricity meter.
Which naturally no one ever had as every one stashed their own.

Taking a mixing bowl out to the ice cream van to fill for afters as a treat on the occasional Sunday.

Knockdown Ginger. Especially with a fishing line and hook for the houses on a corner with a fence around

Playing chicken on your bike. Last one to put their foot down was the winner. We ruled the roads on our estate, not cars.

Making Dutch arrows from sycamore saplings, elastic band, two playing cards and a shoe lace.

Can honestly say that growing up on a council estate was the best years of my life. Until some evil witch took them off of us.

Being out shopping on a Saturday afternoon and having to stand outside Dixons at 4.45pm to watch the football scores on Ceefax.

My memory was the vidiprinter outside Redifussion in George Street. That clacking little cursor working its way across - punching the air if it came up with a 0 for the home team if we were off at some far-flung northern griefhole, then the anticipation (and slight deflation) if BHA also came up 0.

Such a brutal way to see a score.

Oh, and when was the last time you saw kids with playing cards in their rear bike wheel spokes, attached via a clothes peg on the seat stays, to make it sound like a motorbike? :lolol:

Knocking on your mates door, asking if they wanted to have a kick about.
Walking, yes WALKING to school. In all weathers .
CYCLING to school on all weathers, with a cycle cape when necessary (and on the road, with lights on when it was dark!)

Radio Luxembourg, with it's fading in and out.
Logarithms. Not sure anyone understood those
Sine and Cosine tables too - whatever they were (yes, I know; triangles!) Slide rules as well ..................... and all carried in your satchel!

My grandson will be fully versed in this process, once he is old enough. "Grumps" (as I am known) will make sure of it. Its a dying art.

Finding a porn stash in a bush.

Asking someone out face to face with the fear of public rejection on the cards.

They’ve got it too easy these days.

N.B may have shown a degree of personal evolution here
