Things you did as kids that they don't do now!

the unexpected surprise at finding a discarded porno mag in the woods, an alley etc. So easy for kids now that it's on the web, so dangerous also, don't envy youngsters nowadays.

Also, fond memories of exploring the old derelict cinema in haywards heath - very spooky.

The perrymount! Saturday morning kids club!
The derelict building of choice was the old school between heath road and church road:cool:

PS HAVE YOU STILL GOT MY PLAYBOY MAG:rolleyes:

British Bulldog, Kiss Chase and a game we called 'searchlight' as we made our way home after Scouts trying to avoid the headlights from illuminating us as we walked along the pavement - saw us diving over hedges, into bus shelters or hiding in people's gardens until the car(s) had passed. Maybe not a bad thing then really !

We had this harmless little kids thing where we used to terrorise the noncey looking bloke who lived on his own on our street.

Just the usual childish stuff. Shit through the letter box. Smashing his windows. Throwing bricks at him when he went to the shops. Setting fire to tyres in his back yard.

It all backfired on us though when a rough family with bigger kids than us moved in after he topped himself.

The funny thing was though, it turned out he was a widower and not a nonce at all.

Playing out in the street until it got dark.

Getting in the cinema for free because we knew a side door that was always left open. We'd buy a packet of sugared almonds, go upstairs, and try to hit the bloke with the bald head sitting downstairs.

Standing on the east terrace at the Goldstone with my Dad and him telling some blokes near us to stop swearing in front of a child.

Knowing that the said porno mag was going around the boys in class, and your turn with it was 3 days time...the excitement would make you get the horn!!

Putting banger (fireworks) into small boys coat hood and running.

Having a bowl of cornflakes in the morning spending the rest of the day playing football, cricket, cycling, climbing trees getting home when dusk eating a jam sandwich and going to bed...repeat for six weeks. Thats why we in the 70s weren't fat??

Playing football and cricket in the park/street
Walking/cycling everywhere - a car journey was a novelty
Watching monochrome TV
Buying 7" vinyl singles
Buying 8 sweets for a penny
Sunday being observed as a day of rest and being forced to attend church/Sunday school

But if you tell youngsters of today.......

This is reminding me of The Sunshine Shop in Burgess Hill (long gone, I assume).

To add to the list: walking round building sites after the workmen had finished their shifts (as you'd imagine, they were plenty of these in Burgess Hill in the late 70s/early 80s). I remember getting into stationary diggers, going into half-built houses, etc. Without a hard hat.

Throw light bulbs out of train windows:facepalm:

And slamming train doors, immensely satisfying, even in the mobile-phone age..

My Dad could beat all this; he told me once as a kid (near Croydon) he and his best mate would pick up horse-dung (of which there was loads before card/vans took over) and threw it ON to all the people travelling on the top (open) deck of the local trams. Say about early 1920's this would be.

Anyone fancy giving the travellers on the 77 up to the Dyke a real surprise..

Searching for Adders, grass snakes, slow worms. Taking girlfriends for a walk across Hollingbury golf course, showing them my prowess with a wedge (oo er) and then having a right good roll around on the Roman camp and in Monty's bunker up the 12th (old 10th).

I hope you raked the sand afterwards! That would have left someone with a terrible lie.
