Searching for Adders, grass snakes, slow worms. Taking girlfriends for a walk across Hollingbury golf course, showing them my prowess with a wedge (oo er) and then having a right good roll around on the Roman camp and in Monty's bunker up the 12th (old 10th).

Birdying the 12th - good effort!

I see plenty of 8 year olds out and about with groups their own age. You lot seem to think that all kids do is sit in on the computer. It's just not true. Stop being grumpy old men.

I am a grumpy old man, however I am not 'avin it that round your way there are groups of 8 year old's without a supervised, likely CRB checked adult.

I do at times see a few littlin's on their bikes and I feel slightly uplifted to see them, but my Wife tut's the way wifes can and she reminds me that they are just too young to be out alone and demands to know where their parents are, so I go back to being grumpy.

You not "avin it" alters the fact not a jot. Just yesterday I saw a group ranging from about 6 yrs to about 14 all playing on a raft on the river. No adult that I saw.

Most kids still do a lot of this stuff. I think it is a lot to do with where you live. For example in Brighton you don't see that many 8-16 yr olds playing out except on Saturday's on the high street because their parents all moved out to the suburbs or Shoreham or wherever when they bought houses. Take a look along the beach next day you are there on a normal day, very few groups that age group at all.

Where I live, in the leafy suburbs on the edge of the Thames, all day long I see groups of 8-16 yr olds going down to the tyre swing on the river, kicking footballs around, playing cricket with sticks, frisbee in the park, rooting around by the rivers and fields and on days like this if I'm on the towpath I am passed by groups of kids on bikes all the time with backpacks and cheap fishing nets out for the day.

It's a city Vs suburbs/countryside thang baby.

City or suburbs I bet you dont see them in the local paper shop buying 10 Players No 6 or No 10 or Sovereign or if you had nicked enough money out of your mums purse maybe 20 JPS or Slim Kings if you had rich parents you could get 20 Sobraine cocktails and walk around looking hard with a mauve fag with a gold filter in your mouth.

Nice. Group of kids ranging from about 10 - 14 hanging out by the river bank, at least 2 of them smoking. No idea where they got them from!

I do remember being told on high days and holidays to be out of the house at 10 and "don't wanna see you back before dinner". I think my mother may have been a prostitute.
