I know it's in Hove, not Brighton, but while we're being nostalgic...

Is there anyone there who knows the pub that may or may not still be off Blatchington Road (south of there, west of George Street), on the corner of Belfast St. Was called the Belfast Tavern in the 80s when it was my local. Guy called Brian Sadler was the landlord.

Anyone happen to know what it is now?

Still there but now called the Bell but apart from that it hasn't changed in the last 25 years and the same with the Stirling round the corner.

Who remembers the blind bloke who used to play the harp in the centre of town? There was a painting of him that hung in the library for many years afterwards.

And who recalls the blacksmith's forge in the Open Market?

Of course. That's why I took a woman out for a meal for the first time. I had steak au poivre ...no doubt served with cabbage.

Anyone old enough to remember record night on Thursday at the Regent ballroom?
We had to queue right round into North Street to get in, it was so popular.
The bouncer known as” Sladey” was as famous as the clock tower then in Brighton.
The sprung dance floor and the wall flower’s that grew about 11pm. (Girls who’s friends had been picked up and they had not been so lucky)
:lolol:

And Watneys Red Barrel
Great times

All good stuff but never as good as when the Syd Dean Band were there. Harry Leader was good as well. As for singers I remember Bobby sansom but Jill Day was the sexiest thing on 2 legs IMHO

The owner had two restaurants. The other one was a favourite of mine called the Four Aces in the Lanes. Did a wonderfull stuffed steak!!! Sadly it burnt down.

The owner died a couple of years ago. Up until then he had still taken a very active role in running the place, including still doing most of the cooking. It was my parents favourite restaurant, and one that I had eaten in many times.
