These travel vouchers are a bit of a RIP OFF aren't they ?

Will that be before or after I've spent £60 on on two books of vouchers for the first few games ?

There will be non-STH holders attending the first games, they'll need a one-off voucher so I'd guess so. One would imagine they'd sell books of vouchers on a pro-rata basis throughout the season.

Are they definitely match specific? My mate phoned up today and booked a book of travel vouchers for him and his lad and was told he could use them until they run out and then call back later in the season and buy a new book of tickets, this answer suggests that they are not match specific.

travel vouchers

Insider:

"Yes, vouchers can be used at P&R, bus or train by any person, but will be match specific. 30 vouchers are for the one season only. "

Well if you are only going to attend 10 games using public transport then don't buy a book of travel vouchers!?!

It's not mandatory unlike it was at Withdean.

Well that much is certainly true. Will wait for interest to hear the plans for 'non-season-ticket' travel vouchers.

WOuld such a thing be valid on the P&R?

Oooh, I don't know. Probably not.

Though I will end up walking every now and again (from Preston Park) I'm definitely getting the vouchers. Even if I use only 15 of them it works out significantly cheaper than, er, not getting them. Appreciate it's different if you've got kids, though.

Not necessarily. They can just pay the full price on the buses and trains and has anyone said that P&Rs will be available to matchday ticket holders (or away fans for that matter) - just like the near site parking at the Amex?

Thinking about it, the last time I saw you weren't you riding on a mule at Notts County? Why can't you use Muffin instead?

If I could take him into the WSU then this would be ideal, but the club said no. And I'm not leaving Muffin tethered outside the stadium at the mercy of the marauding away fans, who could do beastly things to him.

I'm with Easy on this one.

I just don't see how it would be harmed by making it a book of vouchers, maybe a book of 10 for £12.50, and NOT match specific. Make them season specific if you like, so that we can charge more in future if necessary, but like Easy, my method of transport to the games will differ from week to week. Cadge a lift here and there, maybe someone's wife can be persuaded to drop a car load off on her way to the shops one week, there is this minibus idea that our pre-match pub is trying to sort out ... but on an evening game, I'm hurtling down from Kent, barely making kick-off. I'm not getting a lift for any of them games, as I'll be cutting it too fine. I'm heading for a P&R, or a train station.

I just don't see what teh harm would be in making smaller books available, not match specifc, but perhaps do have to be used this season.

Cheers grittster.

I really do not see why these travel vouchers need to be match-specific. Whats wrong with simply buying a book of travel vouchers to be used as and when required for whatever match you are attending ? Its really quite annoying having to commit £60 for me and the lad when I know I'm unlikely to use even half of them, but HAVE to shell out regardless because of the few occasions I'll be needing the P&R.

And if the club are introducing some other match-to-match voucher scheme, it'd be good to know how this will work SOON, being as we're a little over 3 weeks away from the first game proper. "In due course" is doing my swede now.

As a season ticket holder who will be lucky to make 10 games due to other commitments, I obviously won't bother buying a seasons worth of vouchers. I note the comment from Paul that "one game travel vouchers will be available in due course" Fine, but.....

There will probably be times when I find I can make a game at the last minute. If I roll up at a park & ride site without a voucher, will I be told to F. off ? Saturdays I would probably use the train but unlikely for midweek games.

I know this is something Lord Bracknell was looking for clarification on, ie if you pitch up at a P&R site without having a travel voucher, will you be turned away ? Or will you have the opportunity of buying a travel voucher there ? Dunno if he's had that answered yet, I guess its probably on Bozza's travel queries thread somewhere.

One way of looking at this is that if the club are going to get permission to expand the stadium, the travel needs to work. The more people that commit to a consistent mode of transport, the smoother the system and the overall travel plan will work. I guess that by making it a match specific season book of travel vouchers, a purchaser may well use PR one week, rail the next, however it is more likely that they will go every week by the same means of transport, and use that for the whole season. The more people that do this, the better the travel plans will cope, and the easier it will be to plan for future travel requirements.

Clearly this does not fit in with the flexibility that you personally require, however if a majority also decided to PR one week, train the next, it would be difficult to cope. They will need as many people as possible travelling their exact same way for every game, and I imagine that's what the season travel ticket is trying to encourage.

I don't see how removing the 'match specific' clause on the travel voucher would then lead to people chopping and changing whether they're using the train or the P&R. Makes no difference does it ?

By making it match specific, and they sell for example 10,000 books of vouchers, for each game they can be confident close to 10,000 will be using their voucher for that game whether bus, rail or parking. If it isn't match specific, you could have only 5,000 vouchers used for one game, then suddenly everyone who has saved their vouchers could end up using them for a big game and suddenly you have 15 - 20,000 all using a voucher for that particular game.

Nice theory, but totally wrong, given that the vouchers are not specific to one mode of transport. For example there are people in this thread who have said they'll use the train on Saturdays, but the P&R for evenings games. Selling them a season's worth of vouchers doesn't inform the club in any way, of HOW they are going to be used.

Eh ?
But EVERYONE has to get to and from the game regardless. Those who have bought travel vouchers are not going to decide whether to USE that voucher or save it based on whether or not its match-specific are they ? Sorry, maybe I'm not really understanding the point you are making.

The only reason I can see for the club to make them match specific, is that they'll re-coup some (quite a lot?) of their subsidy costs by selling vouchers that will never be used. Presumably they only have to give money to train/bus companies for used vouchers? If they give them a set amount each year then this is not the case.

I was told when I bought the vouchers that they were not match specific. I know this contradicts what insider says.

But (shoot me down) he must be wrong.

There are 7 extra vouchers in there. How can these be specific?
If they were specific, what happens when a game is postponed?
Are those funny conductor people really going to check what game it is for?
Would they even know the game that day?
Are only match specific ones going to open the barriers at the station on the right day?

The answer is simple. Buy one book for 4 of you. The train people will never ask you to surrender it. You can use it time and time again.
