these pirates want 4.4million in a ransom and the govnment refuse to help....yet certain banking estblmnts ie Northern rock, HBOS etc hold the country to ransom for billions and the monkeys in westminster roll over and play ball.....roll on May 6th
f*** off, we don't negotiate with hostage takers - especially tin pot pirates demanding a ransom!

The correct answer is release an official statement stating that we expect them released unharmed. If that doesn't happen then attempt to have the couple re-united on the sly, then try and free them via some covert military operation (if possible).

The aggressors play without rules but the defenders are supposed to observe dozens of them so allowing the kidnappers to continue as long as they wish, even taking them captive will only result in them seeking asylum or some other legal bullshit and costing the UK or whoever thousands - play by their rules for a while, sink a few boats, no reports at all, no survivors.

i think its legality problem, we could go shootting up the pirates but then we'd be guilty of piracy ourselves.

the reason they do not get shot up is because of the escalation of violence. The Philippine government has kicked about banning all Filipino crew from working on vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden but that is unworkable. But seeing as they are by numbers by far the greatest exposed on a personal level to piracy, its a serious message.

Recently the Yanks, Danes Dutch and Russians have all started shooting first. Think of it like chip and pin, it was only bought in when the costs of implementing it made sense compared to existing credit card fraud prevention and acceptable losses.

Watch this space for Cameroon. Thats the next one.

As for this poor couple - if they were underwritten at Lloyds for millions they would be home watching countdown now. What the f*** they were doing there in the first place is another question. Yes we have to look after our own but this is a massive strain on resources without daft people sticking their heads in lions mouths. I am sure there are massive efforts behind the scenes we dont negotiate with terrorists but we certainly negotiate with their mates. The pragmatic British way.

Heard on the news this morning that eventually the hostages are fully expected to be freed without any negotiation. Apparently the Somali men are very respectful of women will not seriously harm the couple.

Also of course what the government tell the press and what they are actually doing are two different things.
