Not quite true.
The 1st Duke of Newcastle succeeded Henry Pelham. He was Pelham's brother and also born in Sussex. His second term ended in 1762, so May is the first Sussex-born PM for 254 years

Wrong Sir. Although borne buried in Laughton. The younger brother the erstwhile Duke of Newcastle was born in Belgravia. Which in those days, as now is in the City Of Westminster.

"Thomas Pelham-Holles, Duke of Newcastle, was one of the eighteenth century’s great political survivors and served as First Lord of the Treasury through peace and war. Born in Sussex in July 1693 ..."
