Do you seriously think to yourself I need fifteen quids worth of petrol ? Over the last 35 years I have always filled my tank and then I go back when it needs refilling. Perfectly normal and that really isn’t causing the problem. Keeps me out of the queues. I would hazard a guess that the problem is coming from people queuing who are buying small amounts of petrol which means less staggered purchases.

Firstly it's rather arrogant to think that everyone can afford to fill their tank each time and secondly, it's not actually good for your fuel consumption to have a full tank.

The poster to whom I was responding was saying they were helping by half filling their tank. I’m just not sure that’s the case if it means more trips to the petrol station. It’s not arrogant when only talking about the context of length of queues. I only commented because someone shared their view of what might help in the current situation. I hope that’s ok with you.

Your post was "Do you seriously think to yourself I need fifteen quids worth of petrol ?" ( I'll ignore the 'I always fill up' bit ) - that suggests you don't think £15 worth of fuel is worth going for as clearly you're too rich just to put in £15 - that would last me nearly a month.

I take it then that whenever you make a journey, you ensure there is nothing in the car that isn't essential for that journey, ie nothing unnecessary in the glove box, nothing in the side pockets or the boot etc just so there is no excess weight in the car because that's what you are referring to with regard to a full tank or not.

Errr, well actually .... yes. Why carry more than you need ?

Thanks for that, totally uncalled for and why I stayed away from NSC because of a handful of posters like you that always get ‘personal’ without reason. Bullying. In a nutshell. Perhaps time to disappear for good.

Eh? Look at your post and then the ‘people’ you’ve referred to ..and how can you construe my post as bullying?

Do u not see irony in telling the person who you criticise to set fire to themselves and referring to their children etc…shrug:

Tad over reaction to my comment of “oh the irony:?

Nope, I just don’t want to make unnecessary trips to the petrol station. It doesn’t make me rich to put in 45 quid at once as opposed to three trips to put in 15 quid. I get paid monthly so makes not a one bit of difference.

It would obviously help a lot if people didn't fill their tanks needlessly.

If people usually fill their tanks to the top through habit, now would be a good time to only half fill it out of courtesy to others.

Not if they are straight back in the queues a few days later. The reality is people should organize how they wish and, as I said, I only responded because someone said their way was better. It isn’t.

Right, I'm sorted.

Clients don't need to see me for the next two weeks and I can afford to take a short break from work. Have plenty of Toilet Roll as well.

How is everyone else doing?

And £15 would last me 4-5 days

Mrs just back from walking into town , passed a station with fuel and a sign saying MAXIMUM £30 spend .
Surely that would be better as minimum £30 or better still £40 that would stop people like the ones in the earlier post who spent £10 and £6
Otherwise it is penalising people like myself whose car is currently sitting on the drive with the yellow light on and fuel gauge showing below E
And when i say minimum i mean it , if someone goes in and only puts £10 pounds worth in they get charged £30 !!

I assume they can automatically cut out the pump with a maximum spend ? Easy if so.

Minimum spend would be a recipe for conflict, argument and maybe violence with the garage staff ?

And people down to their last £10 and struggling to make ends meet would be discriminated against with a high minimum spend ?

Difficult to police that, I should imagine, if someone still goes ahead and shoves £50 worth in their tank anyway. But what they're basically saying is "please be considerate of your fellow motorists and don't be a greedy bustard."

Lucky you , bet there will be by the time i get there now that you have posted ! :)

It was so bizarre.

I've been visiting right up north.
All bar one forecourt (of about 10) was closed.
Massive queue for that one.
Instead of going over Long Furlong I went down to pick up the 3 garages around Findon.
Drove straight into BP.

What's all the fuss about?

You are absolutely right of course . Just a bit ticked off when i am empty and see selfish people (NOT poor people) queuing to put less than £10 in . The maximum spend thing does nothing to prevent that .

Only a mug or a pauper lets his car get down to the fuel light coming on

I once (decades ago) ran out of petrol up a mountain in Andorra in a Jensen Healey with the fuel gauge showing 1/4 full. I have NEVER let my fuel gauge go down to less than 1/3 since
