There is a Saints fan in my office giving it the big one after seeing my Brighton mug

Is it Redneb?

No coz as you'll see when referring to other threads, I only ever defend us against your endless supply of anti-Saints threads (like this one) rather than critisising Albion unprovoked.

It's pretty obvious that this guy is a tool. This is hardly the time to be harping on about Saints being above Brighton. Not right now anyway. The fact is that Brighton look pretty good to win this league but for me 2nd best looks there for the taking. Udders and BMuff keep drawing (and at home too) and were not that much better. I do however feel that by next Wed we'll be in touching distance of 2nd and with games in hand.

If Brighton do go up easily and we sneak in second, who cares. Promotion is the name of the game. And if that should happen I do honestly believe we'll fair better than you in the NPC. Then this guy can come back to you.

I don't see how IF these events all occur as hoped, you can be so confident? I would say IF we both go up we will have an EVEN chance at success... It is arrogance or biased optimism from either set of fans to think otherwise. It comes across badly because there is no basis for you to say that, that we couldn't offer a counter to! Sure, vice versa... but... At THIS POINT in the season it just looks like baseless Saints arrogance, which you otherwise do very well to distance yourself from!

Fair enough, it was said tongue in cheek as I'm sure you knew!

I'll ask you as well, would you have done better with Pardew?

IF we both go up Ben, we'll have similar income streams (we'll average 18-20k crowds, yours will be a bit higher, but we'll have a higher % of corporates to counter the gap), leading to broadly similar playing budgets.

You however will have Nigel Adkins, and we will have Gus.

If you think that gives YOU the advantage, then you are deluded.

What a knob. Banging on about SCC and how great they are and how 'lucky' Brighton are to be top and that we've spent 'serious' money. This f***ed me off quite a bit so I reminded him we've been literally GLUED to the top for MONTHS on end without so much as a decent challenge from anyone, let alone Saints. I also pointed out their wage bill was laughable when you compare it with ours. I said the only 'serious' money we've spent has been on securing our long term future, not on the playing side.

I'll spare the details, suffice to say I let him say his piece before reminding him we're 10 points above them in the league. I repeated '10 points' 'Top' 'Ten points' 'Top' continuously and it got him proper riled up.

:smokin:

What is with this 'lucky'/'Big spending' crap? Where does it come from?!!

I think you've let him off lightly.

You haven't mentioned CONTINULLY TOP FOR FIVE MONTHS SINCE SEPTEMBER 25

Just heard on South today that Adkins thinks we can be caught and that SCC are the team to do it...... I'm pleased he is giving us a head start

He has to say that though doesn't he. Privately he'll admit he'd be delighted with second but he's got to try and keep his players' confidence up and at the same time keep pushing them. The problem they have is some of them are there for the money and nothing else and if it starts to look like they might not go up there will be trouble.

Good points made.

However if we both go up I worry about BHA being able to keep hold of Poyet. He would be an obvious target for any lower prem club or bigger NPC club. Not only that but plenty of you lot talk about us having a bigger budget, bigger pay structure. These 2 facts point to me being confident of finishing higher than Albion in the NPC.

Could all be irrelivant if we dont go up though. Adkins needs to stop harping on about winning the championship this year. Lets at least get near 2nd before you start that talk.

For certain but not necessarily because Pardew is a better manager. Last season AP came in, bought his own team, developed a style of play and was all set up for this season. Saints fans did not expect promotion last year and he didnt really receive backlash for not getting in the play offs (had -10 points)

This season was set up for Pardew to go up with ease. However his departure and subsequent appt of Adkins meant we had to start again defining a style of play and generally getting the season into swing. We would of got going a lot earlier with AP and Saints and Brighton would be battling out top spot with the rest merely also runs.

The budget etc was larger this year too, and that hasn't really worked out in the way you assume next year will either...

Should AP have stopped shagging around then??? (allegedly)

A friend of mine who is a family friend of his is almost certain this is why he went. Also I heard a rumour that Ashley appointed him at Newcastle as AP lost at a betting table to him and owes him £2m

Why would this make it a reason for AP going to Newcastle unless he is of course working for nothing?
