I believe it raises important questions about transparency in elite sport. If athletes are taking steroids prior to major events with the permission and the full knowledge of the anti-doping authorities, I believe it should also be with the full knowledge of the spectators too. Otherwise, what are we being asked to turn out and support?
Make it completely transparent and everybody knows where everybody stands and can draw their own conclusions. Cover it up or be economical with the truth and it never looks good when it all comes out - as it inevitably will.
I fully agree with you regarding the motives of the Fancy Bears for doing this. But that doesn't change the fact that some people have now got some awkward questions to answer.
But nothing is being covered up is it. We are talking about athletes personal medical records, surely they have as much right to privacy as you or I?
Steroids are commonly prescribed for a number of different conditions and things like Cortisone injections have been administered to athletes for years for acute pain. Ultimately its down to the governing body and medical professionals to decide if the exemption is valid and not the general public.
