In other news, CM Punk was on Ariel Helwani's MMA hour and answered pretty much every question put to him, including discussing his time in AEW. If you follow wrestling news outlet that are sympathetic to him or WWE or who don't enjoy AEW's vision of pro-wrestling, I don't think anything he said was a surprise. It certainly didn't tell me anything I hadn't heard from various outlets. I'm sure there are elements that are played down or presented as more favourable to him than in truth, but that would be expected. I'm sure the same would be true if the other side told their side of the story. Be interesting to see if there's any NDA fallout.

Don't forget we also have NXT Stand & Deliver this weekend - Saturday 5pm UK time.

Obviously I appreciate many of us will have another focus at the time.

Anyone watching the Wrestlemania Kickoff on YouTube?

There's a St George Cross in the front row with an Albion badge on it.

Didn't realise it as starting so early. I did just watch this rather funny compilation of Kevin Owens interview bits:

My son has just come down to tell me this as he’s watching it upstairs. Does remind me of this from WM32.

Think anyone would mind if I streamed the NXT event on my phone over the amex wifi?

Just watching NXT Stand and Deliver. I want them to change Oba Femi's name. I can't be thinking of former newcastle players all through these events.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers, in case someone looks in while watching this morning.

Night 1 thoughts?

My limited view of things online seems largely positive about everything. To be honest, I was really struggling to stay awake and my TV was turned down low so it was hard to hear how wll things were received.

At various times it did feel like perhaps conditions were impacting on performance. I know they used a heated ring, but that can only do so much.

Rhea/Bcky
Maybe my expectations were too high after Rhea/Charlotte stealing the show last year, but this was just fine.

Tag Ladder match.
Was as messy as I was expecting. Saw someone refer to it as AEW-like. Thought they did a slightly better job of avoiding that sense of 'set up stunt, execute stunt' that these matches had become. R-truth is funny, and while the traditionalist in me thinks the comedy should be kept separate from the serious wrestling, the crowd seemed to love his silly spots.

Mysterio/Andrade v Dom/Escobar
"I thought I was done fighting you" Rey mysterio to Dom. Yeah, me too. This felt a bit like a 'how do we get these guys on the show' match. Live crowd liked it. Not sure how well it plays internationally.

Jimmy/Jey
This is a feud I'm not sure I cared about and a type of match that isn't my thing.

Jade/Bianca/Naomi v Damage Ctrl
Mostly filler. Feels like a waste of Bianca and Asuka to me, but a good way to ease Jade onto TV.

IC Title Match
When I started watching wrestling just after Wrestlemania 7, Hogan was out "injured" (filming Suburban commando, I think?), Bret Hart was feuding with Mr Perfect and won the belt from him at Summerslam in a classic match, and became a fighting champion, and so I always like it when the IC title is treated with respect and made to mean something and that has been happening of late. However, I think the 'uncertain underdog Sami, upset wife at ringside' thing suffers diminishing returns having done it in the feud v Roman last year.

72,543 people. What a coincidence, that just beats AEW All In's reported wembley turnstile count (i.e. "actual attendance").

Bloodline/Cody/Seth
I think there were only two people who should logically have taken the pin, and
Seth is already being treated as a spare wheel and level below, if he loses you're burying him, his title and Drew. Roman losing two nights in a row shouldn't happen. Rock hasn't wrestled for 10 years and is an older man, so should be beatable, but he's already lost his one on one v roman and is a ig star being paid a lot to appear, he was never going to lose. Cody losing is (hopefully) the low before tomorrow's against the odds high.
I feel though, like this didn't go as hard as it could have because they needed to hold something back to tomorrow night, so it felt a little less than it could have been, but was still mostly fun.

Slept in late this morning, so hopefully will be more awake for night 2. Hopefully.

Anyone else watching the Slammys to warm up for later?

I enjoyed last night, I'm hoping tonight sticks the landing - hoping for overbooked chaos and surprises in the Main Event, and some of those "Wrestlemania Moments"

Just imagine The Rock standing over a prone Rhodes with a weapon of sone kind, and then the glass breaks...

20 years ago, I attended my first live wrestling event of any kind - WM20 at MSG.

It was a great event and the celebrations at the end were a true Wrestlemania Moment, albeit one now understandably erased from history.

My first live wrestling event of any kind was the battle royal at the royal albert hall. Fun times.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed night two. Might need to watch the early stuff again tomorrow. Had tv volume too low to really enjoy Punk and Snoop on commentary. I'm sure they were more entertaining than I realised.

May write more detailed opinions tomorrow. For now I'm going to try to go to sleep.

While there was no breaking glass sadly, plenty of other iconic wrestlemania moments to enjoy. Just got back to my hotel in Philly, loved my first WM live experience. Mainly here to accompany my 13 year old, but impossible not to get sucked in yourself!

It's not been made clear. The deal starts January 2025, so the network will close down then. But if the migration to Peacock is anything to go by, there will be a bunch of network stuff available right away, then the rest will migrate over a bit at a time.

I NEED to be able to watch Royal Rumble 1992 when the feeling takes me.
