Birmingham Home mid-80's (pretty sure it was Birmingham or may have been Leeds)
Worse violence I have witnessed within a ground (not seen anything like it since actually in a ground)
Was not even a teenager at the time and didn't know who was who
But people were getting battered at the bottom of the East Stand where I was standing
People getting headbutted and heads being bashed against the railings/hoardings down there
Constant running battles after the game on the pitch, people getting serious kickings
Old man wouldn't take me to games after that but I went anyway as it was my greatest love to watch Brighton
Reason I think it was Birmingham was the first time saw nutty black football fans at a game

i can remember loads of birmingham getting escorted around the side of the pitch to the away end, perhaps thats the game your'e on about.
also west ham getting in the north stand, loads of brighton jumped out on to the pitch and into no-mans land between the away fans and then jumping back in when they started to get a kicking.

85 BIRMINGHAM CHARGED IN THE NORTH WEST RECALL ONE OF THE BRUMMIE LADS SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME TRYING TO OPEN HIS AMMONIA AND GETTING CLUMPED! BIRMINGHAM GOT CHASED OUT PRETTY SHARPISH:rolleyes:

i wasn't going in the 70's/80's but i'd say since i've been going the worst away were Chesterfield,Plymouth and Grimsby. also Shrewsbury, Luton, Peterborough, QPR, Oxford and Lincoln were lively.

more recently Southend, Swindon and Villa had decent mobs.

home cardiff, sheff utd, pompy and forest.

Was that Villa away Jan 2010? It seemed a friendly-ish days of fans mixing.

I remember

lancing and heath lads might have helped out too?
At half time 6/7 lads left the terrace walked along seats behind the west ham, ran down the seats jumped out of them on top of west ham in the terracing.
You know who you are chaps! WEST HAM THOUGHT IT WAS A WELL GOOD MOVE???

I remember - I was in the middle of that. It started before kick-off when some West Ham in the South started singing "Bubbles". Me and the few other Brighton 16 year olds that were there at that point sang "Seagulls" in return. They came at us and I was very pleased that the back-up (Bosun Army) arrived form the bar.

Although the West Ham fans stayed they were separated from us by police and were quiet after that (if I remember rightly).

Most violent = West Ham at a Service Station in the late 70's because they had weapons. Most intimidating = Spurs away in 78. Most charging about = Bury away 77ish. Many games were called off. Bolton, Man City and Hastings Cockney Reds turned up and you could walk round the ground. Hastings joined Brighton and chased Bury out of the stand.

Got that a bit wrong.

Old Div One had no games because Don Revie got the F.A to introduce a fixture free weekend prior to a England mid week game,(the first time that happened)
But loads of running around in the first half as Bolton fans turned up.
Brighton would run at the Bury who took to their toes,Bolton got brave and chased the Brighton who turned and run the Bolton, that happened all first half till the Bury f***ed off down the other end at H.T.
Second half Bolton came and stood with us.

Some of us I.C.C. coach veterans knew from previous seasons just what a bunch of wankers Bury and Bolton were so we just watched the newer Brighton away get some exercise.
Nothing happened that day, just a few boys playing at being hoolies.Didn't actually see anyone lay a punch or a kick on anybody.

I was in the buffet car with a few from Littlehampton right in the thick of it. The train pulled into Three Bridges? and it spilled onto the platform. It was a load of Chelsea and QPR fans who lived in and around Crawley as I was talking to them before it kicked off. Just before TB station they started swinging punches at Brighton. Bit of a crush as Brighton came from both sides of the train to get stuck in. 1989 I think

That is exactly what happened.

bury away classic 20 from the heath 10 from the bosun walked straight into the middle of the home end:facepalm:

Bury never had a home end.they went behind the goal they were attacking,Besides, despite being a Bosun regular who went away with the Worthing to EVERY away game,we had Bury sussed years before that, anyone from Bury who had balls went to Manchester. No one at Bury who could fight, not even the Plod.

One other dangerous train journey home was from Notts County about 20 years ago. A large group of older Leeds supporters were going thru the train hitting other footy supporters and ripping out any train furniture ( and I mean whole seats ) and getting whatever they could out of the window. When they got to our compartment they asked who we was and when we said Brighton they proceeded to tell us how we was alright - they liked Brighton as we were the only club with Scottish style floodlighting. They then helped an elderly couple off the train at their stop with their luggage - very politely. Then carried on up the train smashing it up. Weird.
