Chavs I first heard years ago I was told it just means kids, pikeys are dirty smelly inbred wankers who pitch there caravans anywhere, then go round on thieving sprees and ripping people off doing various jobs, they are not even gypsies I got talking to a real gypsy once and he f***ing hates em, he wants them all gassed( his words not mine).

We used the word "Chav" at school back in the late 70s and early 80s. It quite simply meant to steal, rob, theive something.

As in

"I've chavved Muirs dinner money so I can go and buy 10 Bensons now".
