Good article on our Albion in the Community in this months 442...

Interesting quote from the head of the Albion disability group who said it's awful at Withdean as the pitch slopes so once the players get over the half way line you can't see them?!

Surely that isn't right? In ten yrs at Withers i've never noticed a slope in the pitch?

Made us sound very tin pot in my opinion...:dunce:

I've watched a match in every stand and played on the pitch and Its always seemed more or less flat to me...

Most pitches have this - at MK Dons last season the stewards made me and my mates sit in the very front row and we experienced the same thing. I got pissed off with it so we went and stood at the back of the stand on the concourse bit.

EDIT: A camber or crown is probably a more accurate description of this, meant to help drainage apparrently.

You've played on the pitch haven't you?

 I have and that's why I didn't think it wasn't flat. But never watched a game from the wheelchair bit / in a wheelchair. I doubt the players go completely out of view surely not

Lords cricket ground is tinpot also then..

Cricket and football = two different games. It's far more important to have a flat football pitch than a cricket field

Not really no. If a cricket pitch is sloped it effects the way the ball bounces so I'd say its more important. But whatever. :dunce:

Fact is I was talking about the womans possible mis-leading / over exagerated comments when I said the tin pot thing nothing to do with lords. And yes a slope in football is far worse than the outfield at cricket. If you've ever played on horribly sloped football pitches you'd know...

Why does it even matter, the Withers pitch isn't THAT sloped anyway otherwise you would have noticed it when you were playing wouldn't you. It doesn't look sloped to me so if it is it must be extremely marginal.

Back in the Dark Ages, before the pitch was relayed at the Goldstone, Frankie Howard put so much sand down in the goal mouth and out to the penalty spot, that the Goalkeeper had a birds eye view of the game.

Don't know if it's the case at Withdean but in the days before clubs invested in expensive drainage systems pitches always used to be made to be higher around the centre circle so that water drained off down to the edge of the pitch.
