I'll echo most of the comments on here about "The best TV ever made". Especially Albion Rob's comment that it leaves quite a gap. For me it's made every other TV cop show seem incredibly lame. I used to enjoy the likes of CSI and 24 but now I can't watch any of them.

It took me about 3 episodes to get in to it but once hooked it's totally compelling. My missis and me watched on dvd, 3 episodes a night.

Just when you think you've got the accent along will come Snoop!

I have missed it but see it comes from HBO as did Rome and Deadwood, both of which I enjoyed. £16.00 for series one on Amazon, the only thing that concerns me is that I see quite a few comments that it takes between 3 and 6 episodes to get into it, is this correct?

I'm shocked it's not on iPlayer. I was really looking forward to seeing this again but, as I have to get up at 4.00 for work, I won't be staying up past midnight.

And to answer Icy Gull's question: it took me about 3 episodes to get really into it...as someone else said, it dives straight into the story and it does take a while to pick up what's going on but some people might get it quicker.

There is another actor from this side of the pond: Aiden Gillen who plays Tommy Carcetti is Irish - although based in the UK (I've seen him play Ariel in The Tempest, I've also seen Dominic West play Orlando in As You Like It - about as far from The Wire as you can go).

Thanks for the heads up El Pres. I took the plunge and bought series 1 on DVD. Definitely one of the best programmes I've seen for years. Got into it after 2 episodes but I did cheat and use sub titles as I was really struggling to understand wtf everyone was saying, especially those on the project!

Two episodes a night at least, totally absorbing.

I missed the first couple of episodes and had to watch it with sub-titles to begin with but now I'm totally hooked. Even with sub-titles it takes a while to understand what some people are talking about.
