The Wilkins Babes - Where are they now?

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Inspired by Vulture's thread about Tommy Fraser...

We relied heavily on homegrown products for a sizeable chunk of our stay at Withdean. At the peak, eleven of the squad that slayed Northwich Victoria 8-0 were homegrown. What has happened to them all and where are they now?

Only really Hammond doing well isn't it? jake Robinson hasn't played for a while, wasn't even in the team Saturday.

Cox doing OK at Orient but seemed to be having some problems

Wes Fogden is one of the many bright players picked up from non-league by Bournemouth, but never played enough to be considered a Wilkins Babe, but he's the right age.

And he scored at the weekend for the Cherries!

To be fair, that's mainly what prompted me. He had already scored for them though I think, he's doing really well there by all accounts. What makes Bournemouth so good with younger players? The list of players coming through there is getting longer, even with the departure of Eddie Howe.

fraser wasn't great but you'd be think he could do better than whitehawk

he'd surely be a decent conference south player?

Must admit I was shocked when I saw that. That overhead kick against Hereford at Edgar Street that sparked the revival under Slade doesn't seem that long ago and now he's playing for Whitehawk. Jesus.

I thought Tommy Frazer was a great player - he had his limitations but didn't look out of place in league 1. I wonder if Wilkins had stayed and the team had stayed together if they would have made more progress. If i remember we were only a couple of points outside the playoffs. I do think for some players being non league or Lg 1 is due to luck as much as ability. El Abd certainly wasn't a stand out player in that line up.

I loved Tommy Frazer, and yes, I always thought could have had a bit more luck on his side to fully make the grade.

he was shocking - he probably could get a conference south club, but is no doubt earning more turning out for whitehawk than he would say at eastbourne borough

7 points away and never in with any sort of a shout of closing the gap

but I know what you mean - that was a high point relatively speaking pre-Gus :)

And you're right - luck plays a massive part but so does ATTITUDE which is possibly what got Tommy Frazer to the height he achieved and also what sent him tumbling into non league?

I actualy liked Fraser and think even Conference south would be to low, think he would do okay in League two or even opkay at a league one side Like Orient, bit surprised he is where he is

Really, why is that? Have I missed something, that is generally known, are Whitehawk known for having one player in their squad each season that is ex-league and on significant money?

The fact that Hammond could be playing premier league football next year goes to show how clueless people on NSC are when it comes to rating players, there were quite a few on here who thought he didn't do anything. People even used to say it about Crofts.

On the opposite end of the scale, anyone who thinks Tommy Fraser was a good player is equally clueless
