The Ward-Ritchie-Birtles transfer triangle

I could be wrong but my mind seems to recall that both Birtles and Ward scored against us that year. In fact I think they were both their first goals for their new clubs

Ward and Mullers had Fallings out from the moment we got promoted. Ward was threatened with missing our first game against arsenal unless he committed to the club which I think happened on the day before the game

Wardy was mis-used by Clough and it's a shame because it stopped the progress of a great player.
We never saw the best of Andy Ritchie, he was only a youngster when he came here to replace our hero but he went on to a great & long career with Leeds & Oldham and probably played more games in the top tier than the other two!

Terry Connor took some time to be accepted but won most fans over with his honest endevour.
