Sounds even closer to this collapse by Bangladesh against India in a T20 World Cup game a few years ago.

Some might say, hilarious.

I remember following the score at work (it was into the evening, maybe about 6pm our time, so there weren't many people in the office) with a much more senior than me engineer/project manager from India.

It's fair to say he went on something of an emotional rollercoaster.

Consultant has cancelled on me (postponed to next week), which has robbed me of my excuse for ducking the midweek evening league game. So that to look forward to, Thursday night.

I occasionally got dragged in to play for my works team in the Worthing Evening League back in the late 80s. Often teams would choose to bat first because they didn't have 11 players there at the start time.

Pretty sure that in the late 70s Kingston had Ralph Cowan and Charlie Hartridge playing for them. Both played age group cricket for Sussex.

I play in the Southampton Evening League now, and that is still very often the case.

I’d far rather bat in shit light, than try to field in it, to be fair.

The evening league here recommends orange or pink balls (fnarr fnarr) and they do make a real difference .

I know, it dates me. The club exiled me to New York in late 1978...My revenge? They folded...

Bit of a trek East, to the 'birthplace of cricket' - or whatever it is they like to claim (the current Hambledon CC isn't actually the same entity as the 'Hambledon Club' who conquered all of England in the 1750s).

Scandalously, despite all the history, even these are not providing a tea. Seems celebrating tradition only matters when it doesn't involve any EFFORT.

Very disappointing. We provide a really good tea, for every first and second team match, and so far this season in 5 away matches, this has been reciprocated ONCE.

Uckfield 1st's are off to Heathfield this weekend, up against Heathfield Park 2nds.

Heathfield currently 3rd in Sussex Cricket League Div 9 East. Uckfield dead last, but we're on a roll now - 1 win in 10 matches, we'll be looking to make it 2 from 11...

Still just the 1 win this season. We had a shocker. Arrived at the ground (can't recall ever playing there before) and thought it looked lovely. On a bit of a slope, but not too dissimilar to the slope I played on for many years at Laughton. Pitch looked in good condition for playing. The massive tree in the middle of the outfield was an eyebrow raiser. We went in to bat first. A slow, loopy loosener from their opener went straight through our opener and we were 1 down after 1 delivery. From there, we were never looking likely to trouble the W column on the table. At drinks after 20 overs we'd not yet made it to 50, despite keeping wickets in hand. It was a little quicker after drinks, but we were still only able to muster 127/7.

We started out ok with the ball, keeping the run rate down for the first handful of overs. But they started to get away, and as we started rotating bowlers it all went a little horrible. I over-thought things ahead of the match and asked to bowl from the wrong end, wanting to have the assistance of the slope for my off-cutter. It didn't work out, first over was terrible as I struggled getting my run up right and lacked any rhythm. Taken off immediately as we couldn't afford to leak the runs. Was given a go a little later from the other end, which felt a whole lot better - but the damage was done, the niggle in the back of my mind from the first over worrying about the lack of rhythm wasn't helping, nor was the need for us to take wickets immediately if we were to win. Was a mixed bag, 3 or 4 good deliveries, a horrible wide, one dragged down too short that got clobbered, and then finished the over with an attempted off-cutter that came out wrong as a leg-side full toss clipped away for another four. Ultimately we lost by 9 wickets and had an early finish.

One to forget.

Don't think they 'nicked it' Shoreham's own club folded many years ago and after about 20 years was reborn. Southwick had planned the move before the rebirth of Shoreham, planning takes years for a proper wicket, - but well done to that club, Shoreham who have done so well in growing, getting juniors in at a time when many clubs are folding. There is still some play on the Green but at the junior level, the ground itself is quite small, but nicer than Buck park. I don't play for either but have been to many grounds where people buy houses overlooking the village green, loving the tradition, then go nuts when a ball comes near them. Still maybe nicer than being a bowler (like me) who gets smashed out of the ground on a regular basis and has to do that stand there bit while fielder's spend 10 mins looking for the ball in a field- expect a few on here have experienced that!
