The Unofficial Yeovil v Leeds Thread

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Looking back on it, I'd actually say the biggest mistake we made was not going to Leeds to WIN. We were delighted with that point, but I thought at the time it was a game we had to win.

They were the right tactics though, weren't they? Stay solid. Get the home crowd restless and hit them on the break. It just didn't happen.

Draws at Forest & leeds were good results..losing at Crewe Gillingham Cheltenham and Millwall were the problem

Certainly hitting them on the break didn't....

Don't forget the week before at Forest, when we all CHEERED as we put the last minute free kick into the corner flag....

Looking at the OVERALL season, you're right. But remember, three of the four games you mention were before christmas. In fact, two of them were in the first three away games. What I'm saying is that by the time we went to Leeds, and to a lesser extent Forest, we KNEW what position we were in, we knew the games were running out, and we knew we were playing catch-up. We should have gone for it.

Thats fair comment ..in the end we left ourselves too much to do..still a good season on the whole ..looking forward to a good day in Bristol tomorrow

the last minute catastorphie away at Cheltenham and thrashing of Walsall and Leyton Orient 1-1 at home were the results that went wrong

I honestly believed our season changed when the Gillingham home game was cancelled hours before kick off. We were on a run, would have thrashed them, but then we lost all momentum of the great run we were on, and put in a shithouse performance at Millwall, after that we had some poor games and got dragged away from the top

Just far enough away from LDC
The points deduction aside - what cost us in one way was failing to draw with Leeds at home and failure to beat Walsall. Both would have been deserved results and if they had happened it would have put us 2 points behind leeds with 2 to play and a game in hand.

Ifs and Buts though. The table doesn't really lie after this much of a season. Solid attempt but not quite good enough.

Losing to the bottom team did it for me and to be fair if you do that you aint good enough to go up. Lets hope for a few good summer signings under Wilkins (who I have a lot of faith in) and hope next year we'll make those play offs!

We lost to Port Vale a week later. It's only one game in 46.

Is there any real need to dissect where we went wrong, perhaps celebrate the fact we have done so well ?

Exactly, I think most Albion supporters would have taken 7th place before a ball was kicked at the beginning of the season, in my opinion it just goes to show that we are definate contenders for next season.

Like others have said, i so hope Leeds f*** it up in the play offs.

I think that the trouble with certain players had the adverse effect this season, Savage etc. Dean had to rebuilt at least 3 or 4 times, this with little or no funds and to get this close to the play offs, I think he did very well.
If we manage to keep the squad together next season, I like to think we stand a better chance.

A couple of more wins would have been nice though:rolleyes:

Yes and No. Of course we are nowhere near good enough to go up or play in the championship at the moment. Are we happy with 7th ?. Why 7th, why not 20th, it has the same inpact coming 7th as 20th. Wilkins said at the start of the season his objective was to win the league. Now of course we all laughed into our conrnflakes but why say that and raise expectations to be dashed. Under Wilkins I honestly thought we may go down , we haven't, we are a solid division 3 outfit no more no less. Has Wilkins enough in his armoury to get a team in the top 2, automatic promotion as that should be the target, not this play off 1 in 4 lottery shit next season, the jury is very much out. Wilkins should be going for 1st or 2nd next season. If he cannot deliver that next season or at the worst the season after that and we are in division 3 when we start at Falmer, Wilkins will not be in the manager's seat in August 2010. that is a GUARANTEE.
