"Over-rated"? It's become fairly common on here at least for folk to think that they're being daringly iconoclastic by slating them, thereby actually revealing not much other than a) how they've probably only ever heard the singles and b) they've little sense of musical context, IMHO.

But whatever, it really is their loss...all I'll say by way of illustration is that the bloke from the Chemical Brothers plays Tomorrow Never Knows - recorded on four tracks in 1966 - at the end of raves and gets saucer-eyed teens asking which bangin' new mix that is.

Besides, I can't think of a many albums at ALL that don't have at least one slightly duff/filler track on it. :controversial:

I know there is a slag the Beatles chic going round, but it's not a bandwagon I'm on by any means. I have heard all the albums, indeed I have them all, on mp3, and have listened to them many times.

IMO the early albums were sugary manufactured pap, that doesn't really hold up at all today. The odd track I can still listen to but most of it leaves me cold. Yes, in Revolver, Pepper and maybe The White Album they have got some great tracks, but I think I could very well live without Yellow Submarine and Good Day Sunshine. In fact I do.

Anyway, I can fully understand why people do still hold The Beatles in such high esteem, it's normally a generational thing. ;)

Very difficult to say, my favourite album tends to chsnge with my moods but Marvin Gaye What's going on and Pink Floyd Dark side of the Moon are a couple at the moment.

I'm just bored with the Beatles through four decades of over-exposure. They had some good tunes, but I get fed up hearing them everywhere I go. Maybe it's partially self-inflicted, as I went through a "Beatles phase" in my early teens and had around 20 of their albums, which I played to death. And 30 years on I still haven't recovered. I have a few albums on mp3, but have no inclination ever to play them again. I don't need to - even though I haven't listened to Revolver in its entirety in years I could probably still sing it to you note for note (well, I could if I could actually sing...).

For what it's worth I'd say Revolver, Rubber Soul and possibly Abbey Road stand the test of time.

I feel the same way about Dark Side of the Moon (amongst others of a similar ilk). It's not that there's anything wrong with it per se, it's just that 30 years of listening to everyone banging on about how great it is has put me right off.

KSA and Truff, I totally agree that it only too possible to OVERLISTEN to stuff, in much the same way that I can no longer eat sardines after eating nothing but sardines for a week when in Portugal.

Yeah, but the theme from Trumpton would have largely the same affect.

Very suprised to see that in any top 50 list as it's not really Top 50 type music but it is Sinatra's best album by a distance imo. Great big band arrangements by Nelson Riddle
