In which case our friends in the East are a much bigger plus...
Our "friends" in the east were mates with the Germans while we stood alone, until he turned on them.........

Not wishing to be a pedant, but i think you can only say that of 3 nations

Size wise yes, but the principle of what you were suggesting no.

.

Well quite but your original post suggested you liked America purely on the basis of their war dead. Your second post explained why, despite their massive war dead, you did not like Russia. I'm still none the wiser as to why you may like America mind you...

I was hoping the sacrifice made by the US in helping to defeat Fascism in defence of democracy and freedom would speak for itself sorry if you missed the point.

If you mean the Eastern lot who started the war on Germany's side, invaded Poland and replaced one form of brutal dictatorship in the countries they 'liberated' with another then no I wouldn't call that a much bigger plus.
Britain had a world empire not that long ago, not that different really.

Really? I had no idea...my previous post explains the point I was making. I can't be arsed to repeat it. All I've concluded so far is that some people like America solely because it is not Russia. Fair enough I suppose.

The US only entered the war against Germany because the Germans made the silly mistake of declaring war on the Americans , until they did, US policy was to concentrate solely on the Japanese in the Pacific and let us carry on against the Germans in the European theatre, in other words , they were going to leave us to sink or swim, their sacrifice in defeating fascism came about purely by accident rather than design.

I agree with the comments about losing the guns and I'd add time to get rid of the death penalty while you're at it.

Great country though, and I love the baseball.

I love it there. But if I had a chronic illness I'd probably be shitting it. Happy where I am living in the best place in the world, all considered: the South East of England.

The US Navy and Air force were helping escort convoys to the UK pre Pearl Harbour in September 41 with shoot on sight Rules of engagement. They also were supplying us with vital armaments and supplies (at a cost) . The US were already gearing up for war with Germany and Japan. The German declaration of war did as you suggest ease any difficulty with persuading US public opinion.

True but that doesn't in any way detract from the huge sacrifices made by US servicemen and women as I am sure you would agree.

Genuine question: I assume you consider the sacrifices made by USSR servicemen and women (11m military casualties WW2) similarly noteworthy?

I'm listening to Buddy Guy's latest album as I read this thread. He's taken over from BB King as the King Of The Blues.
