What's NSC's exit strategy from being 'kind'?
The death toll for years and decades will be huge after this virus is done, due to poverty, mental health issues, suicide, poor health, poor nhs as no money left. Not sure we are on the right track with this but will go along with it, well we have no choice. Expect to be under house arrest until late June at the earliest. Can't see any spectator football until 21/22 season
The COVID-19 App this morning only showed 2.5m users, so you're right, some way to go, only 2,500 in the Arun District.

I wonder where schools fit into this. In terms of getting back to normality, I think for many that is more important than restaurants and pubs - not for owners of, and workers at, pubs and restaurants of course
I'd fully expect close human contact in enclosed buildings such as theatres and cinema's and music gigs will be the last things to return to any sort of normality. One contaminated person in a cinema for a couple of hours could infect dozens. And yes, somehow the government has to work out what an " acceptable " ( absolutely horrifying ) level of fatalities would be to balance with getting the economy moving again.
Those that make it through will have learned valuable lessons about what really matters in life...… I hope. The poverty, mental health issues etc aren't going away but neither were they being properly addressed before Covid-19 anyway so no change there. I do hope that many people who have volunteered for various schemes to help those less fortunate in health or wealth will carry on in some way after the virus has passed and they then focus on those less fortunate and able in society .
We can only hope.
Wow, that isn't looking good for the travel and hospitality industries. I was rather hoping UK travel sector would get a unexpected boost this Summer.
So how does that work for schools then? How many people can be infected in a couple of hours in a school?
Let's get them back, but no close contact. Hmm.

Simon Calder, yes I know he would sat this, but he’s far more optimistic about tourism/travel within the UK and to certain EU nations from May, June at the latest.
Pretty easy thing to say you hope people would have learned valuable lessons of what’s important - when there is a serious chance of millions defaulting on mortgages etc.
Yes, how terrible of me to suggest people might value things differently after this crisis.
As for mortgages, I think you will find that " Mortgage holidays " will be the norm for a while and extending the term of the mortgage.
The failure to test in this country means we're all in the dark on this. As it say, nothing can happen until we have massively increased our testing numbers.

At some stage soon, a balance will need to be struck, in NOT seeking the absolute minimisation of covid-19 deaths, at the expense of; bankrupting countries, businesses, families, wiping out entire industries such as tourism, horticulture and culture, as well as creating mental health issues for 10m’s of folk locked away in their apartments or similar, kids spending an ever growing chunk of their childhood parted from friends and staring at four walls/screens.
I’m pretty sure people kicked out of houses will think “thank god we have our health, pass me another slice of rat”
Banks have already said they are unlikely to extend the 3 months.
