Not quite true, if they believe it could cause a disturbance they can move them on using section 61.
The police used it here when the locals confronted the travellers as they were moving on to a site, the police moved them on then.

Pretty much. You'll struggle to prove the specific offender, and even if you could it wouldn't remove the whole lot from wherever they are encamped.

A reasonable point. Sec 61 is rarely used mind. Tends to be saved for the more serious disorder (which isn't present in most cases.)

I'm in Saltdean and about 6 caravans got on the oval after they broke the lock to the gate. Locals then drove vans in front of the enterance to block more coming on. Because the lock has been cut it was criminal damage and with the Lions fair there it would create public disorder so the police had enough to move them on. But if they all got on the oval then it would have been harder to evict them. Well done Saltdean!

These are the same group who occupied our pitches last year and were threatening local people to stay away or they would set their dogs on them. Absolutely detestable group...

however, all the time we have a sycophantic council who allow them to pitch up anywhere in the city, then all the time they will set up where they like.

Until the council start coming down hard on travellers, the more they will carry on pitching up where they like and the more of our council taxes will be spent on moving them along and clearing up after them!

How come local councils are able and it seems willing to have bylaws punishing Dog mess, drinking etc, but can't have one that says £1000 fine for leaving a vehicle overnight on council land that is not designated as a car park.

Surely not that hard, though as it sounds easy and has not been done, I presume there is a reason this is not enacted, Anyone know?
