Was lucky enough to be on the first train, and we made it to the game. Remember announcements being made at the match saying that two trains did not make it. Brighton enclosure was packed anyway...great game...gave them a run for their money!

Didn't it rain heavilly that night? Hope it did anyway as I too was stuck on the second train! I hate Kettering now. Didn't our supporters come up with the 'We're proud of you' song that night? That became a big football chant for several years.

No, it was a draw and it was in 1976. Went on to beat Ipswich (or Ipshit as we chanted) in the replay, then beat West Brom and then lost at Derby in a replay. What a season.

Notts Forest was a year or so later - fantastic atmosphere with every nutcase from Sussex there (or stuck on a train). We were packed like sardines, couldn't move, yet they kept a section next to us empty, waiting for the trains to arrive. I recall stories of people jumping off the trains and running down the tracks.

Christ, we had some nutters then!
Nope the train i'm talking about was a Sat game against ipshit, i think it was around the time of the babes in the wood tradgedy, mad jock led a gang of lads on to the lines(overhead in this part of the world) and when a train of ipshit fans whent past they hurled ballast at it, the train didnt get out of essex:lolol: I think they then walked up the embankment and took liberties in colchester:lolol:

I went, no problem getting there, or watching the game. Shame we were 3 down before Wardy got a decent ball in the mud and stuck it past Shilton to keep it....err..... a little more respectable than 3-0.
Err.. I don't know what game you went to but it wasn't the League Cup match. Wardie actually equalised and we all went MENTAL.

Yep - one of the big Albion nights - and a reason that it was a pleasure to go back to the City Ground a couple of years back. Forest were the best team in Europe.

And I got a lift.

No toilets on coaches in those days. Did find a wine bottle easier for relieving oneself in though many of the lads would hang out of the coach door whilst moving relying solely on a mate to hold them in. Now thats what you call trust. The removable headrests were used for all manner of things.

Might be a thread there though.........................

Whats the strangest thing anyone got their dick caught in.

I was in a car driven by Tony Towner's Fridge. It broke down just outside Luton and I had to thumb it on the hard shoulder. Got a lift from Jamie Baker - the Argus's football reporter and got to the game on time.

Spent ages after the match visiting coaches in the car park (in the pissing raind) to see if any had a spare place. Fortunately after about 20 goes I found a place.

Seem to remember that everyone who got stuck got a free ride to Chalton the following week. The result was an absolutely massive away crowd at the valley. We won 3-1?

I don't know either then. Are you telling me there was never a 3-1 game with Forest, in the rain in the seventies?

I went to a Derby away game that was packed to the gills, and I thought they had the worst stands in the league

My brother and I went to a game up North I think it was Mansfield and we were stuck behind the coach from The Clifton and all we could see was beer bottles being chucked out of the sun roof.

A couple of years later earlier I worked for a haulage firm in Leatherhead and had no way of getting to Hereford for Peter Wards s debut so asked the governor if I could take a lorry home to get me to work Monday morning as I had an early start. He agreed so brother and I took that to Hereford and on the way passed the Clifton who had broken down, so chucked them all in the back of the banana lorry, as it got called, and took them the rest of the way to Hereford.

I too went n that trip but we got there in time for the game. Christ it was wet.

But when Wardie eqalised in the second half at the right end (Albion fans packed into the paddock at the front of the main stand) we all ent totally mental:clap2:

I've NEVER even seen the goal that Ward scored that night.

I was on the train - I think it was only one - that didn't get there. Had taken the afternoon off school, got down to Brighton and off we set.

Think it was about at Kettering that we stopped, and just sat there for hours - ended up listening on the radio.

What REALLY pissed me off was that the Club then arranged to show the game at a Cinema in Brighton - only problem was that f**king British Rail were in the middle of Industrial Action - so being too young to drive has no way of getting down there to watch it!
